Hopkins supplement essay length?

So recently I've been worried about the length of my "why do you want to major in _?" essay. Is there a suggested word cpunt range that admissions officers would like to see? My essay is 800 words and my intended major is chemistry.

800 is too long…i dont think admissions will have a problem with anything 50 words or less over the 500 word limit, so try and cut it down

On the supplemental essay, there was no stated limit. It only said “brief.”

Mine was about 450 words. Might be a little short, but I wouldn’t recommend anything past 1 single spaced page (about 600 words, max).

whenever i see brief i usually stay at about 500 words…mine was 465 i think. but royalrimple is right, anything above 600 is too long. put it this way…465 words got me accepted :)

Well, take my advice with a grain of salt. 443 words got me deferred. :p

512 words (and i was accepted). I personally think an essay like this should be upper 400s to mid 500s;however i’m sure they receive some in the 700s and some in the 200s(probably not a good idea lol) :b

Okay, thanks everyone. I finally managed to cut mine down to 560 words, so hopefully I’ll be good to go.

I have answered this numerous times before:

The specific numbers of words used in your essay in no way correlates to an admissions decision. We do not count the number of words, and in fact we don’t care. Use the number of words it takes to answer the essay prompt.
