Is Georgetown really more prestigious than JHU?

Both are highly regarded and people recognize their names. Johns Hopkins is one of the top schools for science in the country, whereas Georgetown is good for politics and international relations.

It depends on your interest. It seems that Georgetown is a tad harder to get in than JHU from our school naviance.

Georgetown - Politics, Business (Graduate), IR etc
JHU - Science, Medical (Graduate) etc

JHU is a world leader in medical research. It is strong in the sciences and engineering more generally. It has the highest annual research expenditures of any American university. 37 Nobel laureates have been affiliated with JHU ([List of Nobel laureates by university affiliation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](List of Nobel laureates by university affiliation - Wikipedia)).

However, JHU also is strong across many humanities and social science fields, including English, French, German, History, Linguistics / Cognitive Science, Psychology, International Relations, and Creative Writing.

The average person is unlikely to be aware of, or care about, any of this. It may not matter much to you, either, with respect to which school (if either) is a better fit.

Also the on-campus environments are EXTREMELY different.

Gtown is vibrant and in the middle of an awesome city. My brother attends and he absolutely fell in love with the atmosphere.

Jhu is a bit more on the quiet side and in a not so pleasant locale. Although the campus is beautiful.

Prestige wise, they’re roughly equal. Also, jhu does have a great IR program with a campus in DC…

Whatever you do come senior year, don’t base your decision on prestige. Base it on the strength in your particular field of interest- the two schools are very different in this.

^ this

but imo, JHU > Georgetown, although i think not by much.

Yes, but only because historically it has been harder to get into / more selective than jhu, and attracts more students from the 1% crowd.
