Got into both Johns Hopkins and UVA...but my parents (both JHU alumni) are pushing me towards JHU. Anyone's gut reaction on which school I should choose would be helpful...assume money is not an issue and that I fit into the social atmosphere of both schools.

Thanks

Well clearly you have some fantastic choices. I think being in your position assuming both choices are fairly equal and money is not a factor, I would draw your attention to the following:

You're from Virginia, probably spent a lot of time in Virginia, a lot of people from your high school and the rest of the state go to the University of Virginia. Hopkins is really a chance to branch and do something new. JH is really a national university and you'll meet people from all over the world and the US. That should be a big draw. I see this as a major difference between the two schools. Both have amazing campuses and great reputations for a strong undergraduate education.

Ultimately, I say visit both in the spring and see how you feel on each campus. GL

i'm in the same situation, choosing between jopkins and UVA for premed...i like the social life at UVA, but the academics at hopkins. so i really don't know what to choose

Look my DS is a happy sophomore at JHU but I say save your parents some dough and go to UVA. But WOI is right: visit both schools and then decide.

I think there is a big difference in the social atmospheres of the two schools. There are a lot more "distractions" at UVA. For some people, that may make it harder to put the necessary time into studying. For others, it may help.

The student body at Hopkins is much more diverse than UVA. Of course, since you're from Virginia--the atmosphere there may be more comfortable--but I recommend stretching yourself beyond your comfort zone.

Both are good schools--but Hopkins has a more intellectual, academic environment. On the other hand, UVA is DI--ACC. Which is more important to you?

congrats on both acceptances! UVA and JHU are great schools.

in the end, do what you feel is best for you.

but i'd still say Hopkins...continue the legacy! =]

Thanks for all your input--

I'm visiting JHU next week for their open house, but I'm beginning to lean that way anyway-- the fact that it will be very different from my high school is probably the biggest factor.
