So i am currrently a freshman in highschool and so far my grades have been pretty horrible.
First semester ended up with 4 B's and right now (second semester) still stuck with the same grades again, 4B's and 2A's. since i am asian, things are very competitve and my parents are not very happy with my grades either. Will this ruin my changes to a top tier university? My dream schools are probably Standford and CMU as i have a huge interest in computer progamming and plan on creating a small company this summer. I am also a varsity swimmer with a few school records as a freshman. I just need some help with my situaion because i feel that my GPA is completely screwed with all my B's in freshman year. Thanks for any help! ;c

For what it’s worth, Stanford doesn’t really consider freshman-year grades ([source](http://www.stanford.edu/dept/uga/application/freshman/transcripts.html)):

Even so, you’re going to need a really wonderful upward trend to be competitive. Stanford is the most selective university in the country. Lots of people get rejected from these schools with perfect unweighted GPAs and test scores and ECs and essays. Make sure you have a safety school (that is, a college that you can definitely get into and afford, and that you’re willing to attend).

Maybe you could start getting involved in schools outside of just classes, or you could find activities to involve yourself in. School isn’t just about grades, albeit they are extraordinarily important. If you’re looking for inspiration, I would look towards your personal interests. Since you like programming, maybe you could join/start a Programming Club at your school. You could also pursue interest in technology by participating in Science Fair in the computer science category. Getting really into these kinds of activities may be a lot of work, but they’re real motivation boosters.
