How do I explain my 2.3 gpa in freshman year to colleges!?!? I was just going through a rebellious, anger, teen year. I've changed so much and my gpa is now 3.8 weighted!! (with classes like ap chem, calc, etc). I've also done relatively well on my SATs.
How do I explain my freshman year grades?? And, will colleges deny me for having such a terrible freshman year

An upward trend is generally seen as a good thing; it probably will hurt a bit, but not nearly as much as if that were your sophomore or junior year GPA. A few schools don’t even consider Freshman grades (though they still play a part in rank if your school provides that).

Yeah my freshman grades are why my class standing is so low. Should I address my freshman grades in my personal statement? I can’t really describe a hardship though, except being a confused/lost teenager…

UC schools don’t look at freshman grades

Uroogla is right, schools like an upward trend or a consistent one. Maybe if it bothers you so much you can write one of your essay’s about it? Your sophomore year and junior year is definitely the most significant when it comes to college applications. My freshman GPA was a 3.5 (3.66 one semester and 3.35 the next) then my sophomore year went up (first semester 4.00, second semester was a 3.75) and my junior year went up even more! (first semester 4.00, second semester was a 4.00). Now I have an unweighted GPA of a 3.8 and a weighted GPA of a 4.25. It went from a 3.5-3.8; yours is even better. I don’t think you need to worry.
