I currently live in canada and I am enrolling in the ib program.
Right now I am a freshman with AWFUL grades.
I'm getting 4 Bs this semester (eng, socials, pe, art).
I am so depressed because there is only 10 days left to bring my marks to an A. This would be easier to do if i had tests left, but for socials, all my tests are over, and i have 1 final exam coming up and its an essay -i am not a very good writer. this worries me EXTREMELY.
Not only this, but because i am in canada, Bs start from 85%. Right now, I am getting a 83% or 84% in socials. the percentage WILL show up. so even if i get an A, it will be very low (86%~88%) and i belive this is a B in the states? so will colleges see this A as a B?

Do i have a chance at the Ivy league schools such as princeton, harvard, yale, etc. ? or are my grades too low? i skipped one grade... will this help?:(! please give me some advice :(! thanks :)

No they are not. Sure, they may hurt you a little, but everyone has gotten at least 1 B in their life. your only a freshman so you have 3 more years…and some colleges don’t even look at freshman year. Just do better and do well in other areas like SAT and ECs and you will be fine.

Well i was in IB my freshman and sophmore year and what you have to realize is #1 IB is a BIG step from the every day curriculum of 8th grade or even the regular high school courses. Its very rigorus and unfortunately, perfection is not expected your 1st year. BUt you’ll be okay because your grades are worth more in IB so instead of getting 3 points for those Bs, u’ll get 4 because (well idk about canada but in the usa its like this) their As are worth 5pts instead of just 4.

Most schools forgive Bs in the freshman year because of transition issues. However, your grades typically go down after freshman year because of harder classes, so you may want to think about WHY your grades are Bs and focus on fixing it rather than thinking about whether or not it will hurt you.

it seems like people think everyone that posts something a little ridiculous is a ■■■■■ lately. you must realize that most of the people on CC are like this and that a B is indeed the end of the world for many CC’ers.lol.

hey man,
im in the same boat as you. im a freshman, and i didn’t do to great either this year. i also want to go to ivy level schools. i heard that colleges really like upward trends, so im gonna pull it together, and get good grades next year!
u should too! yale doesn’t even look at freshman grades!

rohin: best of luck nxt year for you and me XD haha

and wow everyone’s comment made me feel so much better o.o maybe except for the ■■■■■ part hahahahah. now im not so depressed and i think i can do muc better nxt year because i didnt study this year o.o T.T i regret it, but life goes on and i guess 4 bs isnt the end of the world. ^^
