GARH. I just did something so incredibly stupid that I can barely even BELIEVE that I did it. For the longest time, it just didnt register in my mind that I had to do a common application form for Barnard. I guess that the Barnard transfer supplement looked so long that my brain just registered it as a separate application. So, for one of the questions (How has attending college so far shaped one aspect of your educational and/or personal development?), I basically copied the part of my common application that talked about that; however, last minute I realized that Barnard wanted the common app, so I sent it also. I completely disregarded the fact that they will SEE the common app that I copied from for the supplement!! Now, I will look either stupid, lazy, or, worse, like I just didnt care enough to write them a unique answer! How stupid of me! And worse, I only JUST realized my mistake! Even if I mailed out a new response monday, it is still almost two weeks after the deadline (Nov. 1). Do you think that they already read the essays?

Damn, I usually never make such silly mistakes...

I wish someone could assure me that I am overreacting, but Im pretty sure that I am out for Barnard, right? Any advice?

Bump...

It is a difficult situation. I am not sure that anyone but the adcoms ar Barnard know what is the correct thing to do.

People do make mistakes on their apps, and I am pretty sure the adcoms are usually understanding. Your mistake is fairly big. You have two choices here - just let it go, and hope that the rest of your app is good enough that they wont hold it against you. Or, you could call and ask to speak to someone and come clean. I know one of my son's ea schools has just finished opening envelops and collecting all the info. They just sent out emails telling if they have everything.

If you are deferred, I am pretty sure the schools will let you send in a new essay.

I am a transfer, so I don't believe that deferral is an option.

:( I guess I should be happy that I didn't accidentally write another school's name, but, yeah, my mistake was a bad one. I'm not sure if Barnard will be open on Veteran's day, or the post office either, for that matter, but maybe I will just call them ASAP and ask.

I was sent a link to track my app, and the tracking said that they had everything, but does that mean that they only checked to see if it was there?

Yes, I beleive the tracking info is just to say it is physically there.

I would call them when you can. The disadvanatage to this is that you may bring atttention to your mistake. The advantage is that you may be able to fix it. All is not lost. Keep in mind that the person you talk to may be in a clerical position and shouldnt have any influence on your app.

Perhaps I can avoid giving my name and simply ask if I can resend? I am afraid that sending the correction may prompt them to read the original version to check out the mistake, or to scrutinize the rest of the app for mistakes... It will probably be pretty obvious to them though, so I guess it is better to resend and address it. Would you mind reading the letter part for it? I don't want to make excuses, but I'm also afraid of being too open about my mistake... Thanks for the advice.
