Horrible SAT II

Hey... I took the Chemistry SAT II in June and got a 710. My scores in my chem class were flawless, and I even got a perfect score on the state NYS Regents exam, which also goes on the transcript. If I am planning to major in a science at one of the top tier schools (Cornell, Georgetown, Duke...) should I spend my summer studying for the SAT or study to retake the SAT II?

do both. You should definitely retake the chem SATII if you want to focus on your passion for science (otherwise 710 would be just fine). And you should undoubtedly study for the SATI, since its the most important of all tests.

The SAT is biased against...........

People.

What I hate about the SAT is the time limit. Why the hell is there a time limit???? half of those who take it get 100 points less than they could potentially have gotten because of the pressure of time!

What the heck are they testing us on? on our knowledge and intelligence, or on our ability to withstand pressure!?
And the same goes with tests in college - TIME SHOULD NOT BE LIMITED SO TIGHTLY! on a test like the SATII with 80-100 questions, the time limit should be at 1.5 hours at the very least!

That's not such a bad score; you don't have to raise it much. I got into Duke as a science major with a 750 Chem SAT II.

How is that Horrible?? At all?
I can't stand posts like this

yea seriously, a 710 is not bad at all. i got a 710 on 2c and writing u don't see me complaining. don't pay attention to the percentages, usually if ur 700+ on all ur SAT II's, it should be fine for top schools.

...
I seriously do not understand most of the people on this site.

I'm sorry, but it seems like everyone on here gets like 760+ or something, and they make you don't, it makes you feel like an idiot...

As long as you are in 700s with your SAT IIs you should be fine. They are not that big of a deal when it comes to admission. Colleges just don't want you to bomb them. 700+ is a decent score by all means.

haha. yeah i understand IHATESAT. I got a 720 in USH, and while I dont regard it as HORRIBLE. I was still disappointed...because yeah there will be students applying to these top schools with 780s and stuff. If you really feel like you can do better, you might as well retake it. That's what I'm doing with my ush.

"are you an idiot?! Horrible is getting a 470 on the SATII French, you ******* moron."

Different Scores Are Horrible For Different People! If The Op Thinks His Score His Horrible, There's Nothing Wrong With That!!!! STOP BASHING THE OP!
I got a 670 ON BIO SAT II AND NEARLY CRAPPED MY PANTS WHEN I REALIZED HOW HORRIBLE THAT WAS FOR IVY STANDARDS!!!

"I got a 670 ON BIO SAT II AND NEARLY CRAPPED MY PANTS WHEN I REALIZED HOW HORRIBLE THAT WAS FOR IVY STANDARDS!!!"

The thing is that even THAT score isn't horrible EVEN for IVIES.

Please remember what the point of this test is; not aptitude but proficiency in a particular subject--mid to high 600's and certainly 700's demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and that is what colleges are for the most part trying to confirm. Percentile ranking is not near as important as the SAT because of the small percentage of students actually taking the SAT II's. Your garden variety LAC or university does not require these tests, only ivies and top schools so automatically the scores are skewered because basically only very academically strong students are taking them. S made a 790 out of 800 on the Math IIC and was in the 84th percentile for that testing. It did not hurt him--he demonstrated what the test is designed to corroborate: proficiency. Study and don't worry about it.

yeah but for harvard and MIT a 670 is much lower than a 790 and because it isn't even 700 i feel sad...ah well i'll study day and night I absolutely have to get 750+ or I'll lose my sanity...

I hate posts like this. 700+ is good enough?

Definitely.....

That's not good enough....

710 is horrible????!!!! i got a 620 on Chem Sat II and i will be attending Georgetown this fall as a bio major/pre-med (oh, and i am white). i didn't get anything higher than a 740 on the SAT IIs.

710 is not horrible. 710 is horrible for the Ivies!
Esspecialy because this guy wants to focus on his passion for science.
