Horrible sat math ii subject test score

okay, ive been crying myself to sleep like every night
i recently got my sat 2 math score......640
its horrible, considering harvard is my dream college.
i was sick that day and had a horrible headache, i can never do math when i have headaches. i got a 780 on french, because it didnt involve too much thinking...unlike math

beside that 640, everything else on my app is pretty much perfect. im getting VERY high grades in math and im taking AP calculus right now. its just because i was sick that day
but i cant take it again in january dont ask....

do i still have a shot at ivies? or am i skrewed due to my 640 math score?

why not take it again? on a day when you are not sick!

im a senior…and i cant in january since im taking my sat I :'(

I don’t know why you were thinking of harvard. unless you have an SAT score of 2320+ to make up for it. Even then, maybe a 15% chance of in.

What is your current SAT I score?

i’m taking them in january. Im an international student and just recently decided i want to try the states. ive been getting 2300+ on practice test though…i know i know i should have started SAT 4 years ago but i actually JUST decided to try the states. my question is basically will one 640 kill the rest of my application (assuming that everything else if perfect)

cuz if it will kill my chances i will probably stop applications right now, it would be a waste of money.

i dont think one bad test score is going to kill your chances. ivy leagues and other top 20 schools are so unpredictable, so its still worth a shot

Are your only SAT II’s French and Math IIC?

unfortunately yes…i regret not trying math 1. i regret everything…

You’re fighting an uphill battle, unfortunately. A 640 on Math II doesn’t bode well for your math score on the regular SAT, and international admissions to Harvard are extremely competitive. Are you at the top of your class and do you have good extra curriculars?

Hey, don’t give up hope! I got 640 on my Math II, too. I was so mad. My calculator malfunctioned & I didn’t know about it until weeks later, so I’m re-taking in January. If you haven’t taken your SAT Reasoning yet, then I guess you just have to take it in January. If you’re just re-taking SAT I, don’t bother and take another subject test.

If there’s nothing you can do it about, just don’t think about it anymore. Make the other parts of your app stronger. You only have 0% chance of admissions if you DON’T apply, right? I wish you luck!
-an international (:

Sorry about the calculator, but it’s not a problem since you have January! Yes it will be my first time taking the SAT I in January, but at least I’m sure I will score high since I practiced all summer. I should have started SAT II earlier, so that I can have time to take them again…but due to various personal and family issues, there was a delay in my decision to apply to the USA.

But my math mark in school has been very high throughout high school and I am taking the hardest math course offered, wouldn’t they wonder why my SAT math score is so low? I know the fact I had a headache is not a valid excuse AT ALL, but would they want an explanation?

Thanks

Stop crying about your score. Move on. My friend got into Harvard last year with 590 math i and 650 math ii.

I don’t think they want an explanation. They’re already too busy as is and having to read another note will just give THEM a headache. It’s over, it’s done. Don’t worry about a single subject test score. I don’t think subject test scores are as important as other parts of your application. Good luck!

just give me one reasons why is not good to choose an accredited programs of architeture

Even if you had an 800 on the SAT 2 math and a 2300+ SAT, as an international you still wouldn’t have a great shot at Harvard. Unfortunately, since you’re taking AP Calculus this year, you won’t have an opportunity to score well on a math AP test to show that your Math 2 score isn’t a good representation of your math abilities. So if money is tight, you might not want to apply to the most competitive schools unless your ECs are amazing and you do very well on your SAT in January.

Nobody has a great shot at Harvard, but 2300+ with 800 on Subject Tests is as good as one can get, international or otherwise.

in your scenario i would:

a) screw the sat reasoning test (sat 1)
b) give the sat 2 math exam in jan
c) give the ACT on feb 1 as most colleges accept it

that is, if you’re hell bent on harvard.
plenty of other schools will take you if your profile is as perfect as you say it is even with a 640…

^or if your prospective major has nothing to do with math.
