Horrible SAT Scores, a chance at Ivies?

Certainly it’s better, and the fact that you are hispanic makes a difference. Still, the CR score is prettty low for the Ivies. You need to have a realistic list of schools–it can include some high reaches, even Ivies (especially if you have some impressive ECs or other achievements), but it needs to have matches and safeties, too. There are many excellent schools that would be delighted to have you.

Being a URM certainly helps, but from what I’ve read it’s not a huge boost for Hispanics. Colleges need to know you can succeed there, and unfortunately a CR score beginning with a 5 tells the top schools that reading assignments will be tough for you. I hope you can consider non ivies where you can grow your reading comprehension skills and not be overwhelmed competing with kids who are starting out with a big advantage.

“The SAT CR section is deliberately tricky although not as tricky as it used to be back when the Analogies section was part of it.”

Oh my gosh, analogies!!! Those were the days. So glad they’re over, LOL.

@ems–my advice (posted elsewhere): Don’t merely take CC advice with a grain of salt. Use the whole dang salt-shaker.

Re the Ivies: No harm in trying, right?

Best of luck to you…

*Being a URM certainly helps, but from what I’ve read it’s not a huge boost for Hispanics. *

Is that true? Why?

Because there are many more strong Hispanic candidates than black and NA ones.

^This is true, and is becoming more so. OP, you will need to raise your score drastically despite your race for a chance at the Ivies. It is possible (as is success on the ACT), but it will involve heavy prep. When crafting your college list, I would not depend on a huge score jump–make a realistic list with your current scores.

If you can afford it, a private tutor can be a great way to prep. They know the ins-and-outs of the test and can help you maximize your score. Otherwise, there’s a wealth of information on CC. See what you can do in a summer, and add Ivies to your list only if it becomes feasible.

as you already took 4 shots at the SAT I seriously dont think another will help plus 5 SAT’s is allot! No doubt the CR score will hurt but SAT’s are not the only thing they will look at. I would pick some match / safety schools also. It all depends how many 70.00 checks you feel like writing. good luck

Your chances are kinda low. Here are the average percentile for each ivy league school.

There are an abundant of excellent schools that will take you with those scores, remember an ivy league school isn’t everything.

i’m doing ED to wharton, and i have legacy there, would that help?
