Horrible Sophomore Semester

I had a horrible semester in my sophomore year… With many Cs, and a few Ds and Fs…

Even though that happend, I still managed to get good grades all other years and am probably gonna end up with:

Unweighted GPA = 3.325
Weighted GPA = 4.25

Class Rank = Top 20% (Very Competitive School)

Will my good performance in all other semesters cover-up my flaw?

I really had trouble with my work habits when I first joined AP… and English is my 2nd language…

I recieved good scores on all of my AP Exams and SAT IIs.

And I am probably going to be National AP Scholar and will likely get the SAT in the high 1300s, low 1400s.

My ECs are decent…

Are my chances to get into UNC-Chapel Hill from instate gone?
Or do I still have a very good chance??

Please Tell me…

Looks like we have parallel problems, although my case is slightly more mild.
I, too, am taking a very rigorous courseload (I'm assuming you are too; your weighted GPA is much higher than your unweighted), but my sophomore and freshman years I slacked :( ...
Well, I'm anticipating a much higher grade point average with an awesome improvement (3.5 to 3.9)...
Candidly, I think you have a slightly below-average chance, but colleges take improvement into account. Your class rank is still decent, and your unweighted GPA is stellar. :)

wouldnt an above average SAT score, good SAT IIs, good ECs, National AP Scholar award balance my chances out??

I am also planning on enrolling in UNC advanced math courses my senior year.. (Linear Algebra, Computer Science)
Will that help??

I believe that I am an above-average student with a 1-semester flaw..

They say a good GPA makes up for a bad test score, but bad grades will not be compensated by a good test score. If you could explain your situation, then the admissions officers may be understanding. The C
s could possibly be overlooked, but I wouldnt be too hopeful about getting the D
s/F
s overlooked...
If you manage to get A
s for the rest of HS, and you get a very good test score, then I think it MAYBE okay..especially if your in-state.
Good luck. You cant change what you got on your report card. Just keep improving! The UNC advanced math course will help, try to get a good grade in that too.
