Schools that I hope to get in:
UC Davis (first choice)
Cal Poly SLO
UCLA
...any other UC/CSU that I might have a chance?

I'm planning to write my essays on the 5-yr period when I lived in Taiwan + studying in a normal, public jhs.... makes for good writing material.

yeahits still possible.you have good ec's i guess, spend more time talking about what you did in the ones you were "just a member" in as opposed to the ones you held office in.

gpa of 3.3 is good.

SAT of 1180 isn't bad either, mind you its not GREAT, but it's decent.

UCLA is like a 20% chance...
Davis is like a 40% chance....
UC Santa Cruz is like a 70% chance....
UCR and UCM are your backup schools for sure with 85% rate....

you will get into all the cal state schools except SLO which is not a guaranteen....

Your SAT scores seem low but your EC's make up for that. I think you have a good chance. Write a strong essay and have a great interview and you will be fine. In your interview tell the people what your disadvantage is.

I think you've got a good chance for UCD and UCSD... I've had friends who've had lower SAT scores (but mind you, higher GPAs and killer ec's) who have gotten into both of those schools. Just write killer essays and emphasize your passions as shown in your extracurriculars, yah? And aim to push that GPA... you can do it!

And the SATs are decent... because I have almost same scores, too, just 600 CR, 650 W (math is the same, though. whoo, go us math-abhorring people). So they switch a bit. ^^

Aaaand kevin, no interviews, as far as I know.

um... not to be a downer, but the above poster is being a bit ridiculous. there are always stories about people who had 3.3 gpa unweighted 3.5 weighted gpa and 1200 sat's getting into ucsd and ucla and such, but its highly highly inlikely. you cannot judge your chances of getting into such schools on random individuals admission. you have to go by the average admit stats. the poster has a chance at davis, but ucsd is absolutely unlikely. here are the average admit stats. res_nullius, try to be realistic when evaluating a poster so they dont get their hopes up on something completely unrealistic such as getting into ucsd with around a 3.3 or 3.5 weighted gpa and math writing sat's in the 500's. both the posters gpa and sat are well below the 25th percentile for ucsd. i dont get why individuals come on college confidential and post bogus chances for people that do not line up with reality at all. im not saying its never been done, ive heard random out of the ordinary stories for top tier uc's like sd and la, but its very rare. the poster should be focued on attempting to get into a mid tier uc, such as irvine, santa barbara and davis. these schools are atleast somewhat realistic at a slight reach or reach. ucsd, ucla, uc berkeley are very very unlikely.

UCSD: 4.04 GPA
SAT Critical Reading: 630
SAT Mathematics: 667
SAT Writing: 639

Hey hey, I was just offering what knowledge I had, buddy. And none of the above information I posted was bogus, either. And I did say that the people who did get in with those 1200-ish SATs had higher GPAs and pretty intense extracurriculars. There are other factors, my friend.

However, I didn't know how rare that was (the situation you described above) -- my school is a major UC feeder, and they all seem to have generally be in the high 1100 SAT scores (most, but definately not the ones that go on to LA or UCB), same (high) GPA, and decent extracurriculars, and they all do fine. So at least my eyes are opened. Whoowee.

Realistically, UCSD, UCLA, and Cal are out of reach; the rest of the UC's are possible. Remember that some schools like Cal Poly SLO and even San Diego State are on par with some of the bottom UC's, so be sure to give those a chance.
