Horrid GPA for MIT. Chances?

Like 300 CS hours, at least 450 by application time.

EC: Research at UT Arlington in organic chem lab, big brothers, big sisters, taekwondo, National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Academic Quiz League.

Also, I take classes at UTA in Calculus and Chemistry.

The GPA is less important than the specific classes that you got B’s or worse. Math and science grades are obviously more important for MIT.

From your AP’s, it looks like you have mastered your classes at a reasonable level.

Your standardized test scores are great. You should definitely apply.

How does your GPA compare with the rest of your school?

You are a URM with a 2380 and ridiculous AP and SAT II scores. Your GPA might not be at MIT’s “level”, but MIT does not have a quota. IMO, you’re in.

That GPA doesn’t look horrid. Is it weighed or unweighed?

UW. I’m ranked 27/790

@token777 apply! You have a good chance.

I think you are in good shape. Your GPA is not that low. Furthermore, you are in the top 5% of your class (by weighted GPA?). One piece of advice: with community service, the “hours” are one way of showing your commitment, but it would be good to think about why your work was important to those you were serving, and what you actually accomplished–also, whether you took initiative or did anything innovative in your community service, and whether it fits together with your other interests.

This is ludicrous. Your grades will not stop you from getting in… mine were far worse.
