I am a US citizen but currently reside in India
I am a high school senior and have a GPA of 3.5,SAT1= 1650 SAT2-- math 670,phy-730,chem-680
We are financially not that great and I decided to go to a Community college first.I have relatives living in California,so thought of a CC there.
Now,I wish to transfer to UC berkeley,UCLA,USC,GeorgiaTech,Michigan,Purdue,UIUC
Now my horrifying question is that if I match my course requirement to UCLA and do the necessary credits that match UCLA requirements and if I am not accepted to UCLA(Jesus) and get an admission call from Georgia Tech but don't have the course credits for Georgia Tech(as I had completed my credits matching to UCLA in my CC)
Then what??? Is it all ruined?
I don't want to limit myself to a single college.

You can meet te requirements of both colleges at the same time.

And the requirements of UCLA are likely the same as those of other UCs, making it impossible for you to limit yourself to only one college.

Yes,matching requirements of UCLA and UC berkeley wouldn’t be much of an issue(UC system) but do you think matching course requirements of UCLA and GeorgiaTech could be an issue as they’re completely different?

Being a bit dramatic, aren’t we? You have something called flexibility and choice in choosing your coursework. See what GT needs and ensure you schedule it – no doors are closed. That’s all.

Horrifying? Hardly. Ruined? Only your sense of perspective.

Yeah but if it takes more than 2 years completing requirements of each and every college, that would just ruin all my savings I’d save going to a CC

There is some flexibility. But yes, it can happen that way. More likely than you think , too, since you don’t always get to take the courses you want.

@cptofthehouse----That’d be a big blunder on my part :(

preetsingh,

When you get here, you will get a job, and you will be just like the hundreds if thousands of other community college students in the nation. You will work full or part time and you will study full or part time. If you are really lucky, you will manage at some point to qualify for in-state residence which will make your classes cheaper. Even if you can’t manage that, if your grades are very good, you might land one of the big transfer scholarships (yes some do exist). Even if that doesn’t happen, there still remains the option of working full or part time while you complete your degree full or part time at whichever college or university admits you - again like many, many students are doing right now. If it takes you longer that four years total, you certainly won’t be alone.

Would transferring community college credits to a college which is not in the same state as your CC is be a problem??

If you can only afford to go to a CC in California first, how do you propose to finance a transfer to colleges like GA Tech, Michigan, UIUC which will mean out-of-state tuition cost?

@GMTplus7----- I can go to a 4 year college but trust me,it will drain out each and every dollar my dad has earned.Plus I have a small sister :)

It all depends on you. YOU need to meet the requirements for all the colleges you’re applying to. I’ve applied to UCLA, UCB, and UCD this year and completed requirements for all of them in 2 years (Granted many were similar except maybe 3-4 courses). It’s definitely possible. Thankfully you won’t be considered an international student at a CC nor a UC because you hold citizenship. Also, if it takes you more than 3 years (shouldn’t, if you’re a full time student), then it doesn’t ruin the savings you make. You’re still only spending about 10% at a CC than you would at a UC.

The horror of it all? BTW what is UCLA(Jesus) is that a new divinity school?

The (Jesus) part was internal monologue.

the OP is being dramatic lol. you will be fine. dont worry. you can satisfy many requirements for different universities in 2-3 years. just be full time and take any intersessions (if offered).

Whats OP?
I was being dramatic(I guess by nature) but your comments were really stress relieving !
Appreciated…
@Heemanshoe–Did you apply to any OOS college?

OP = original post
Also, I can’t reply to private messages until I hit 15+ posts
So I’ll post the responses here.

No, not this time around. I did as a freshmen. I suppose I got too lazy

No. Some classes were specific to UCB, others to UCD and UCLA. Like UCB does not need Financial and Managerial Accounting for Business majors, but UCLA and UCD does.

I wouldn’t know which CC to recommend. I’ve heard good things about Diablo Valley College and Berkeley City College. Personally, I go to Las Positas College and don’t know if I’d recommend it.

I did TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) with UCD and received conformation (pretty much means you got accepted) but waiting on the formal acceptance.

I believe they don’t look at your highschool grades or SAT if you do 2 years at a CC, but I think that’s only for UC’s. Privates still want to see SAT/ACT and sometimes your high school grades as well.

Yes, I do. I work part-time at a consulting firm and before that I worked at an insurance firm.

Good luck!
