I have a friend who is entering hospice. She needs help and I’m not geographically close by to easily help her interview people. I put her zip code into the National Hospice and Palliative Care Org web site and lots of choices came up. Wondering if anyone has recent experience with hospice in this locale. She is only 50’s with cancer. Thx
My best friend is a retired hospice nurse of 49 years in Los Angeles.
Can you copy/paste the list? I can ask her opinions.
I’m so sorry for your friend.
Edited to add - I’m on that website - are you saying she is going to be hospice at her home or is she going to a facility? My friend says Torrance Memorial is one of the best for someone in their home & she’s looking at the list - she’d probably contact UCLA as well as they’re cutting edge and a research facility -
She will have hospice at home. One of her oncs is at UCLA and she doesn’t like them. Her other onc is at Beverly Hills Cancer Ctr.
Thank you very much by the way. I worked for our local hospice for 6 years and insider knowledge is so helpful. I will look up Torrance
We have had two experiences with Torrance Memorial. I can recommend them highly. They were originally recommended to me by a friend who is a physician in pediatric palliative care.
Thank you very much Denise. I will call them in the morning. I hope they service her area.
Sadly, Torrence doesn’t serve her area. Any knowledge of:
In the Arms of Grace
Lucky Palliative Care/Hospice
True Care Hospice
TIA
We have not not heard of any of them.
I’m sorry your friend is dissatisfied with UCLA as my nurse friend says that would be her go-to after Torrance Memorial.
The oncologist your friend doesn’t like is at UCLA but I would imagine the hospice services for home care from UCLA could be okay?
So sorry about this. It is wonderful that you’re trying to help your friend.
I’m sorry I haven’t had experience with these. A not for profit hospice would be my preference.
Your friend is fortunate to have you.
Thanks all. I will check with UCLA. I called quite a few hospices today and the CA State Hospice Org and apparently most are for profits. Surprised me.
