I guess I'm one of the few people on here who's interested in business, but not going into finance/consulting/IB, but actually Hospital Admin (which, in my research, seems to be extremely lucrative, especially in this economy). My question is: would it be better to get an MBA and just take health classes as electives, or get the MHA (Masters of Hospital Administration).

MHA programs teach many of the same courses as MBA (or occasionally you actually take courses with the MBA students at the university) and the admissions rates even at prestigious universities are far less ridiculous than those for MBA programs.

Get your MBA. Having worked with and know several Adminitrators, they see know difference in which one you recieve. However, an MBA gives more flexibility if you decide to leave healthcare all together. Furthermore, MHA leave some analytical practices to be desired, which you will obtain in an MBA (ie finance, strategic marketing/foundations, stats)

My two cents, while IB/Consulting/PE have more lucrative returns in the short term, they are very high burn out rates (Been there). From my experiences and those of colleagues sitll in, we went because nobody told us not to.

At the end of the day, a hospital administrator makes as much as any other CEO of an organization of comparable size. Actually, other CEO’s may make more…
