OK, since I cross post every premed question I have on SDN and CC (It's easier to sift through the sarcasm here, not to say that I don't enjoy it somewhat):

Hey, so I don't have to worry about this for another few years, but it was on my mind anyway, so I guess I'll ask. I've been volunteering at the same hospital every summer (except last year) since 2005, which dates back to my high school days. Anyway, I know the general rule for filling out activities on AMCAS is that you don't include high school activities unless you continued them in college, but does this include hosptial volunteering?

If the activity was limited to high school years (even if it was hospital volunteering), then no it doesn’t belong on AMCAS. However, if you started in high school and continued into college, then definitely include it.

I like the way Icarus put it. Everyone has told me that what you did before college doesn’t matter, and I semi agree. If you spent one summer volunteering between soph and junior years in HS, then it’s probably worthless, but if you’ve been doing something for several years, and continue it on through college, then I see no reason not to include the time during HS. If anything, it shows good dedication.
