Host Family or Dorms - Tec de Monterrey, Mexico

Hey guys,

I think I'll be going to Tec de Monterrey in the fall. It is an amazing program and is cheaper than a year's tuition at my school. I have two choices: a host family or a dorm. The thing is, it is a very conservative school. If you live in the dorms, they take attendance every night, you are not allowed opposite-sex visitors and if you want to go out after a certain time you have to fill out a form, etc. And then, there's the host family. Obviously, it could be the same deal. What if they don't let me out at night, not introduce me to ppl, etc etc..

What do you guys think?

Thanks

I would definitely advocate for a host family whenever possible. It is by far the best way to acquire the foreign language, plus having a family away from home will be comforting and an unparalleled glimpse into the culture.

Thank you gojumbos

Although I would definitely agree with the host family statement, I must add - I have stayed in the Tec dorms and they have private bathrooms. Just sayin! Good luck (:

really! haha. are the rules of the dorms that harsh (attendance, opposite sex visitors etc etc)??
