Hosting a Radio Program?

So I live near the Evergreen State College, where they have a radio station set up. Everyone who broadcasts is a volunteer, either attending the college, or not.

Now I want to get into journalism, and I'm trying to round myself in all aspects of it (television, radio, and newspaper). I will be doing a journalism class next year in high school, which is writing for the school paper.

Long story short, I contacted the college, and they replied saying that I, (a current high school sophomore), could get the opportunity to have my own show, if I take a 6 week course + added in "homework". I know it's not a guarantee I will get to host, but I think I do have the qualities to make the cut, and hopefully that will shine through.

So hypothetically, if I do get my own show (they are 2 hour blocks), how much weight would that have on a college application. Keep in mind that since it's strictly volunteer, I would be able to rack up some hours as well.

Thanks for reading,

I worked as an intern at a sports talk radio station one summer and eventually they let me do the early morning slots, granted nobody listened but it was A LOT of fun.

That sounds like it’d be really good experience! You should definitely go for it! I used to have a SHOUTcast server that I made and maintained with some friends for an online game that I’m embarrassed to have played as I look back on my life.
