hot guys?

ok ok ok im not THAT superficial :P…but after browsing through the cal archives, i’ve come to the conclusion that there’s quite a few threads about hot girls…so just to even it out y’know…

beauty is in the eye of the beholder :)

well, there are not a lot but my hotnesss totally boosts up the average to an unprecedented amount

lol. It all depends where you look. There def are both guys and gals on campus, as well as the not so hot type. Just depends if you stay inside all day or take the time to travel outside in the gorgeous weather.

i remembr going to berk during spring break while i was in higschool, they were still in session.

i wlaked into a class, just to get the feel for it. i think it was an anthro lecture. i remember the girl next to me had terrible armpit hair, and looked rather hippy-ish. the other guy next to me reeked of pot, and looked like he was dying, he almost feel out of his seat b/c he fell asleep. in fact, the whole school seemed on the super-casual-stuck-in-the-sixties vibe.

berk smells kind of funny. wlaking around the town, there were bummy looking people everywhere trying to sell me bongs and other paraphanealiea. telegraph ave makes me depressed, it reminds me of growing up in Pakistan. a lot of people were handing out fliers, and they wouldnt take no for an answer, dogging you as you ignore them. some students seem unusually quiet or unusually obnoxious. the campus is really nice though, really big.

i wouldnt go there if good looks are on your mind. smart people are generally ugly people, and berk has a lot of smart people.

Oh. My. God. It sounds like none of you have actually ever been to Berkeley. The students here are normal, just as you'll find anywhere else. They, after all, came straight out of high school just like you did didn't they? We're not dirty, we don't do pot 24/7, and we're not "stuck-in-the-sixties". The only people who are like that are the bums, which yes there are quite a few, but it really doesn't make a large impact on your everyday life. I'll pass by them once a day maybe, and go on with my life. BFD. Second of all, Telegraph is the heart of the city, and the people there make Berkeley what it is. There really aren't that many people handing out fliers, definitely not as many as there are on Sproul, which you'll find at any campus. Trust me. Also, you'll find shy or obnoxious people anywhere you go. Most of the students are, as I said before, completely normal.
One point you made is true, though - the students here aren't that attractive, especially the guys. Lots of pretty girls, but not many guys to match that. And of course, the campus is beautiful.

The guys at Stanford are supposedly the shtit (case in point-----> me :) )

When i took a little tour of the campus with my cousin, i didn't see anything wrong. But, this is how the freshman that i tutor in AVID described the students at berkeley:

-They all ignored them; they seemed to be in their own little worlds, in a "tunnel vision" type mode looking really focused.
-The weather was cold, yet everyone wore short sleeved shirts and shorts
-There weren't any very hot girls or hot guys, and some of them were really hairy.
-There are a lot of bums around campus.

Sounds delightful!

...how can I figure out a way to make this my new dream school...

The weather was cold? lol. I don't know about you, but i got in from the East Coast, and the weather up to now has been delightful. I wear hawaiian shirts and shorts most of the time as it's too hot otherwise. There has only been 2 days where longer clothing was needed.

Yeah there are a lot of bums, but if you think about it the berkeley experience isn't just learning about pure academic materials, it also includes learning how to deal with everyone in a respectful manner, be it nobel prize winning profs or bums on the street. You'll have to learn it sometime and it is better to learn it in college than go thrown out into the real world and get a crash course.

Oh, well, I live in the Central Valley where temperatures in the summer average in the mid 90s and temps during the winter are in the 50s and 60s. It's really mild here compared to the bay area.

I know there are a lot of hot girls at UCLA, probably guys too (but I can't judge that). They're probably less prevalent at Cal, but they'll be there.

hmm it appears that this has also been debated on the livejournal cal community: http://www.livejournal.com/community/ucberkeley/673194.html

Well, that's how it is in real life too. Maybe about 5% of people are good looking.

I think it is much more than 5% of the population that is good looking.

I think 5% is even low for Berkeley, though when I took a class there, none of my classmates were more than a little above average and I did not see any exceptionally attractive students. They didn't look like hippies for the most part, a lot of just regular people, especially the Asians. They wear like GAP and stuff. A lot of the hippies and bums dont attend but just live in Berkeley (if they take Pizza out of the Blondies trashcans, they probably arent a student).
