The rumor mill is rumbling that Emma Watson (Hermione Granger of Harry Potter fame) will be attending Yale this fall.

I would not be surprised. According to Scholastic's first reader (Arthur Levine, Brown '84) in charge of Harry Potter, Yale is "the closest thing you can get to Hogwarts in the United States." Besides that she would be following in the footsteps of many famous, nerdy, beautiful actresses.

If true, it is being hidden even from Yale students, as she does not appear in the online Yale facebook (which requires Yale ID and password to access). Moreover, a quick perusal of more official web sources reveals that she is not planning to start university until 2009, and is still in high school. So, all in all, the rumor appears false.

There's also a rumor she'll be attending Middlebury.

i'm the last guy to belittle middlebury since i'm going there next year, but i doubt she'd go to a liberal arts school in vermont when she could go just about anywhere, like yale or oxford. the middlebury acceptance page said that they had admitted 1 magician/wizard, though, so maybe she just got in or something.

I don't believe she's actually going, but why wouldn't she? Middlebury is an amazing school for languages, and I hear she's focusing most intently on French and Latin.

Apparently she wants to study philosophy at Cambridge.
