Hotchkiss Huddle !

Do they have an honor code… I love schools with an honor code, they are kind of fun… hehe…

I truly wish I had applied to Taft, btw… I’m excited for revisit days.

pom_mom: I am sorry I meant it in a light hearted way i actually have friends at taft and applied there myself. I know it is actually a very good school.

I REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY want a good mock trial/debate team… REALLLLLLLLLY badly…

That’s why I decided to apply to Hotchkiss, I started my app REALLY late in the process with under a few weeks to finish everything. :P

Don’t worry then ! Hotchkiss has got your back ! Our debaters have always (as far as I know) finished as the top American debaters at worlds. Last year one of our guys came in No.1 for impromptu debate at worlds overall (debate speech and a bunch of other stuff) he came in 5th. We have also had kids that came in 1st at worlds but that was a few years back. like in the early 200s. Many people consider us the top American high school speech and debate team period. This year at worlds one of our younger kids came in as the top American speaker and 4th overall. At Yale we won Outstanding delegation. Over the past 6 years we have either won Best or outstanding delegation (winning best 4 times). So you will be debating with some of the best debaters in the world. Get ready ! make sure you meet the Vavpetics (the Vs) they are the secret to Hotchkiss’ debate team success. They really are legendary coaches. Hunt them down on revisit day and talk to them.

I will! Pretty excited…

Whee :)

St. Pauls is #2 in terms of debate (or how I liked it)… If I go purely by debate/trial it will likely be HK, though.

I’ll probably speak with Winterset about it.

SPS is not no 2 in terms of debate actually. Deerfield is VERY strong in one particular form of debate I forget which though.

Out of the HADES schools Hotchkiss debaters consider Deerfield No.2 then comes SPS then Andover and lastly Exeter.

But they are many lesser known schools in between even Hotchkiss and Deerfield and defiantly SPS such as Kingswood Oxford (traditionally anyways).

Hotchkiss is however far above the rest particularly when it comes to international tournaments like Worlds. For instance last year all the Hotchkiss speakers finished above the second best American school at Worlds (Andover). Our best speaker was 5th their best speaker was 17th - our speaker was a junior at the time.

I don’t know why, it clicked. Maybe I am wrong.

Kafka–I was completely kidding…we are looking forward to a good-natured rivalry in our house! I am very happy that she’s going to her own school and not “my” school.

Got my acceptance yesterday morning. Hotchkiss overnighted it using Fed-Ex! I am so excited that I don’t even care if the other schools accept me or not. I can’t wait.

Congrats !

yayyy!!! headingtohkiss congrats!!! pm me!! :)

Soooooo…
I saw, kafka, that you explained the dress code a bit earlier. Since revisits, I’ve heard that no patch pockets are allowed on pants. How strict are they about this? I’m having trouble finding pants that fit that are made without patch pockets. Arrrgh. Mi esta pirata. Can anyone tell I don’t speak Spanish (I take French). Tee hee hee.
Okay, I’ll stop talking to myself now.
So how strict are they about “no patch pockets?”

I have a different question as I’d like to apply next year. How is the food? Does Hotchkiss have an arrangement like SPS’s Tuck (snack bar/hamburgers) where you buy your food?
