Which would you choose between the two and why? Finding it hard to choose...

I would choose Hotchkiss for a number of reasons:

Hochkiss is smaller than Choate, that makes for a tighter community. There is not a single person at Hothkiss who does not know my name, for instance.

Hotchkiss has better sports teams, I mean you do want to go to your schools games and see them win every once in a while, right ?

Hotchkiss has Mr. Mars, you never know what he might do. Last year he took 100 kids and 16 faculty on an al expense trip to antartica, very fun.

Hotchkiss has superb teachers, not that Choate doesn’t, i’m just saying.

Hotchkiss sounds better than Choate. Hot Chicks, Hot Kiss, Hot kids, need I go on ?

Also, THS has a higher endowment per student, better acceptance rate at top colleges and more courses per student.

Although I have a son Hotchkiss and we are absolutely amazed by this magnificent school, all that really matters is whether or not your child fits better at Choate or at Hotchkiss. Still, you can’t go wrong: both Choate and Hotchkiss are great schools, and you can’t make a bad choice here.

don’t make a decision until revisit day.

don’t listen to what biased (coughkafkacough) people say, go see for yourself. both are incredible schools, you can’t really go wrong… haha :)

you forgot to mention that Hotchkiss is in the middle of absolute nowhere
while choate is not, CRH is in a semi urban campus, near hartford CT
where hotchkiss is very beautiful in fact it is one most the most gorgeous and breathtaking places in the world, but is quite far from any airport

i would go to choate ivanka trump went there

the hotchkiss is a little to “hotchkissy” for me if you catch my drift so choose choate

…

why do you always do this…
…
its ****ing me off. gosh.

Choate, just because its better. Meaning: to me it seemed less ‘cold’ and formal etc., it had really good food, good facilities, nice location… the list goes on

choate!!!

morphious , you make me laugh. Where are you going to school?

supposedly peddie. why don’t you ask davedrake/DEERKISS/morphious/huxley23 or something they’re all the same

Oh I’m just aware that deerkiss is davedrake and …
Why they’re not banned?

I think they are but I suppose he creates different e-mails and usess other names than his own to create new accs…

That’s a good waste of time. Keep up the good work, bud!

Both great schools; can’t go wrong! If it were my choice, Choate would edge out Hotchkiss, but just barely. It comes down to modesty of all things, a value which I prize. Choate seems less braggy to me. I like that very much.

Good luck on revisit days!

Last year, my son applied to what he and I considered to be the top BS’s in the country. As a part of our analysis, we looked at and weighted heavily the alumni of schools. We were and are of the beilef that one of the very best ways to determine the greatness of a school is to look at the greatness of its gradutes.

Based upon our review, we concluded that Hotchkiss and Choate had some of the most illustrative grads of all BS’s. That said, we found, as a somewhat crude generalization, the great alums of THS to be a bit more inclined to business (e.g., Ford, Mars, Stanley, Luce) and law (e. g., Potter Stewart, Robert Bork), while the high profile alums of Choate leaned more to the arts ( e.g., Edward Albee, John Dos Passos, Micheal Douglas, Paul Giammatti, Glenn Close) and public service ( e.g., JFK, Adlai Stevenson). Because my son’s interests run closer to business and law than arts and public service, he preferred Hotchkiss to Choate, at least in this area of comparison. (He is now enrolled at Hotchkiss.)

Such a comparison of alums, however rough and ready, may be helpful in weighing Hotchkiss against Choate (or any other two schools, one to the other). Maybe not. Still, we found the review of BS alums helpful in learning about and weighing BS’s, for what that is worth.

Both schools are on par in the major aspects that matter. Having applied to both schools, I personally like Choate better because I feel it’s a warmer and friendlier place. Kids are happier and the school administration is nice and easy to work with.

I didn’t apply to or visit Choate, so I can’t compare, but I loved, loved, loved how Hotchkiss’ main building had so many sofas and tables and areas to lounge - a small detail, but it makes it seem like both home and a community, to me, at least.
