Hotchkiss student here!!

If you guys have any questions about Hotchkiss just ask here!.

Are returning students receptive to new lower mids?

I know boys can wear a dress shirt with either a tie or a blazer, but do boys tend to wear one more often than the other? Joust wondering what I’ll need to buy more of for my son next year.

Our understanding is that there are a significant number of single rooms available to entering preps. Are these assigned randomly or is there a preference hierarchy? If so, what can a parent do to increase chances at a single for their child?

Devolution I might be able to answer this one. I was at a dinner with Hotchkiss students and one of the current preps said how when she came here she really wanted a single. To do so she said she wrote things down like “likes alone time” and “likes to have own space” and she ended up with a single. I know I’m not a Hotchkiss student yet but I hope this somewhat helps! :)

Lower Mids are super welcoming! There are lots of new lower Mids so everyone fits in really well! A lot Of my good friends are students who joined as lower Mids!

I don’t think there is anything to do except for request a single when the dorm information arrives. I requested a single as a prep but ended up getting a roomate! I am so glad I got a roomate because I think that I personally would have been extremely lonely if I had a single!

I wouldn’t say they wear one or another more… Make sure he has lots of each and if he finds he prefers one or the other once he gets to school you an always buy them then!

So my revisit host told me about the walkbacks. Two of the preps I talked to had been asked before, but I just wanted to know is it common?

What is worn most by girls?

Walk backs are most common your first couple years and I guess they are most common with preps. I wouldn’t say there are an overwhelming amount though although they do happen…

Clothing for girls changes for the different seasons… In the fall girls wear skirts or dresses or pants (colored jeans etc…) winter is sweaters pants boots etc and spring is tops skirts and dresses in general!

I know that there are things to do on Saturdays and Sundays like the school driving you to Millerton and hosting dances, but when all that becomes really repetitive what do you?

I wouldn’t say it becomes repetitive at all…there are always speakers, social events or just hanging out with friends (walking to the lake etc…) Also, you are so tired from the week that it’s nice to relax over the weekend and not do much!

I know I have asked this many times but have you heard of any openings for 9th grade boys?
lol I’m obsessed with Hotchkiss. Something about it just clicked. The campus was breathtaking and the students and AO’s were so nice!

Do you mean off the wait list? The admissions office will contact you if there is an opening! Hotchkiss is an amazing place and I hope you’ll get to experience it!

Do you remember when you received your course enrollment and dorm selection forms? I know Hotchkiss says late April, but I’m just too excited to wait.

I think I got it the last week of April! I couldn’t wait either!! I know for sure they mail it the last week in April so you will for sure get it around then!

Ok thanks!

Sure! Are you going to be a lower mid next year?
