Hotchkiss student here!!

Ipohmom, I found the cell phone coverage to be pretty spotty when I was last there, but maybe some providers are better than others. As for math, I think most preps would be taking Geometry. If they’ve already had a full year of Geometry, then most likely it would be Advanced Algebra (MA 350). But the placement test will determine what math class your child ends up in. As for science, most preps are in SC250, you’d have to get permisison from the science department to go into SC260 instead, for which you’d need to show that your child has already done the function equivalent of the physical science class. I think its much more common for new students to place into higher math classes than it is for higher science classes.

If you do get a phone plan Verizon is the carrier that gets the most reception according to students. My family is changing the plan from AT&T to Verizon once I leave for school. More reception, lower cost.

Thank you @soxmom and @confusedonhades

Nope. This year I wanna say less than 10 preps were in pre calc. thats a pretty good accomplishment! and yeah! a few of my friends took 260 and if you’ve taken physics and a good basis of it then you should do it! and cellphones – reception is crappy, BUT you can connect to wifi if u have a smartphone and go on instagram, fb, etc. most ppl use their phones to just check social networks and stuff. I would recommend getting her a phone, you dont want her to drift from her old friends, and with her smartphone she can text her friends wherever she is instead of being restricted to only using the phone in the dom.

Thx D1BOii for the reply!

My D got placed into SC260—but I’m beginning to have doubts whether she’s had enough foundation of physics…

what do you take the next year after SC250? and for kids who took SC260?

Hey I’m applying to Hotchkiss and I was wondering if I had a chance to get in…

swimmer24601

To be honest, you have a fair chance, just like all the other “chances” people on this thread.
Work on your SSAT, especially the sections you fared badly on. How long have you done these extracurriculars? Quality, not quantity is the key.

for swimming- 9 yrs
basketball- 6yrs
crewing-i just started- one season
piano- 7 yrs
art-7yrs

That’s good. Ideally, you should have awards or something that shows that you are great at these activities. Remember to post in the chances section for inquiries like this next time. Good luck!

@alphabetcrazy When do we find out our advisor?

Did you guys get your roommate assignments yet?

Nope we’re supposed to get those by August 1st

You find out your advisor when you get to the school.

@lakeville how well do new lower mids blend in with the current students?

they blend in really easily. a few of my friends were new lower mids last year. to be honest, i didn’t even know they were new as lower mids unless they told me. it’s really easy to make friends hear, especially when you live in a dorm full of other kids in your grade and the grade above or below you.
