Hi!! I’m currently a third former (9th grader) at St. Paul’s and this time last year I was in the exact same place you are. I got into Taft, Hotchkiss, St. Paul’s and Groton and after narrowing it down to Hotchkiss and Sps I just could not choose…that is until revisit came around. I found that the atmosphere at St. Paul’s was much more welcoming and the students seemed genuinely happier and proud to be a part of the Sps community. The kids at Hotchkiss seemed pretty uptight (although its a wonderful school). I am so happy with my decision to attend St. Paul’s, I absolutely love it. The students are great and really welcoming, the faculty are always helpful and I love that it is a 100% residential community. The freedom with responsibility is great too, its nice to be able to make your own decisions. Congratulations on being accepted to such incredible schools!! Maybe I’ll see some of you at revisit :)

scone1-- thank you so much!!! That’s such a coincidence that we are/were both choosing between the same schools. I am so excited to revisit!! The school was incredible. And yes, maybe we will see each other without knowing its really us :)

Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions.

Hi @scone1 I recently got accepted to SPS. But, as a freshman, can you tell me how much support you get from the school and how well freshman year is going. Thanks. :)

Hi @blessemy!! As a third former you get lots of support. Most specifically, you get an adviser. This person is an adviser of your dorm (most live in your dorm) and you will see them regularly. They’re always there if you have an issue or if you just want to talk. There’s also coaches, the other advisers in your dorm, older students in your dorm and various other faculty members. In terms of this year, I absolutely love it. The people at St. Paul’s are great and it makes for a stimulating and fun environment to live in. And SPS is not a sink or swim school.

There’s also extra help for every class, which is when you go to teachers outside of class so they can help you understand whatever you missed. Peer tutoring is also always an option. You just sign up for a tutor in any subject and when you’re assigned one you will work out a time that’s good for the both of you to meet. But what I do most is study with my friends. Regardless of who your teacher for a certain class is as a third former everyone is taking the same classes (for the most part) and learning the same things. Exceptions include arts and languages though. But my friends and I regularly get together and study in groups.

Thank you so much for responding @scone1!!

No problem, I love to answer questions about St. Paul’s.

See you all soon!!
