Hotel and Restaurant recommendations

My DS and I are planning a visit to the campus in October. What are some hotel and dinner recommendations? I would like for us to eat lunch on campus so he can get a feel for the campus. Which dining hall would be best?

Well Inn at Carolina is right on campus and is very convenient. In Vista there is a Sheraton and Hampton Inn. I’m blanking on the one that’s on Assembly down from new business school. How fancy do you want to get for dinner? In Five Points I would say Yesterdays since it is local hangout. Harpers in also good. In Vista, try Blue Marlin. There is also a Mellow Mushroom and lots of other good restaurants.

The main dining area is in the Russell House student union and is called grand marketplace. It is typical layout with different stations to get different types of food. It would probably be best place since you may also want to hit book store and will be in center of action. Also in RH are individual eating places such as Einstein Bagels, Chick fil-a, a pizza place, a greek place, marble slab ice cream. Around edge of campus popular eating is at Moe’s, Beezers (sandwiches) and Cool Beans (coffee etc).

October will be nice here. Just be aware of fall break from 23-26 when the campus may not be in full swing.

@scmom12 Thank you. We will be there October the 1st. I have heard about Yesterdays so we’ll check it out for dinner. We are extremely excited to see what they have to offer.

The hotel across from the new business school is the Courtyard by Marriott - it is very nice and very convenient - park and walk the entire time. There is also a Springhill Suites at the vista. If you want walking distance from campus - try California Dreaming for dinner. Goodluck and enjoy your visit.

We have stayed twice at the Inn at USC and it’s lovely. Just home from move-in and we stayed at the Marriott Downtown on Main Street, which is attached to The Hub–off-campus student apartments. As for restaurants, the kids like Pawley’s Front Porch (burger joint) in 5 Points and I really enjoyed Mr. Friendly’s. Just off campus is the Carolina Cafe which is perfect for a light sandwich for lunch.

Agree with many of the recommendations- the Inn at USC, Courtyard Marriott, Hampton Inn, and Hilton are all beautiful and an easy walk to campus. Yesterdays in 5 Points, California Dreamin’ near campus, and Liberty Tap Room in the Vista are good casual options, Gervais and Vine and Blue Marlin in the Vista, Oak Table in Downtown (overlooking the State House), and Garibaldi’s in 5 Points are great choices if you’re looking for something a little nicer.

Love California Dreamin’ - we’ve eaten there twice lately! Also walking distance from campus.
