Hello, we will be coming to Pittsburgh for an accepted student day for my son on 3/24. We are coming out on the 23rd since I have not been to Pittsburgh and we really want to explore the area and make sure that he is comfortable there. Can I get some recommendations on hotels near the campus? Or suggestions on best location to stay? We will have a car but would like to be close to the campus I think so that he can really get a feel for it. Thanks in advance!
We’ve been three times. Our best two stays were at the Wyndham on campus–it really gives you the feel of being ON campus and it’s right in the center so it’s super convenient. It is next door literally to Alumni Hall so you are right in the heart of it all. The only downside is it doesn’t come with breakfast so you are on your own for that. We just always grabbed a muffin or a bagel from Panerra the night before and had that before the events of the day. There is a Starbucks a half a block away also.
For Pittstart we are going to branch out a bit and stay at Shadyside Inn. It’s not far from campus, they offer free shuttles and it’s in a great neighborhood.
We were in Pittsburgh a couple weeks ago and stayed at Hilton Garden Inn University Place and it was great! Centrally located and the shuttle will take you anywhere within a 3 mile radius, so we parked our car and didn’t use it again until we were leaving. On a previous visit stayed at the Wyndham on campus which was also excellent. Have fun!
Thank you! I ended up booking at the Residence Inn University of Pittsburgh/Medical Center only because I got a great deal through my husband’s Marriott Rewards program. I think we are fairly close and they have shuttle service as well. The Wyndham looks great also.
Residence Inn is our go to place and we are in year 6 --DS graduating with PharmD in April. Since you are Marriott rewards members, we love Springhill Suites at Bakery Square. A little farther away, but great place and area. Very close to Target which will become your go to place if your DS chooses Pitt!
Thank you!
Hyatt House in Southside is a very quick drive to campus and beautiful view of the river - that’s my pittsburgh homebase of choice.
We’ve stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn, Shadyside Inn, Hilton Garden Inn and Hyatt House. The Residence Inn and Hilton Garden Inn are great for a first visit to campus because of their proximity to campus - they are both within walking distance.
Hilton Garden Inn. Stayed there on our first visit. Very convenient, short walk to the campus. We’re going out on 3/24 as well!
