Hi there. I'm an undergrad at a college with no pre-professional programs. As of late, I've decided I might want to pursue a career in the restaurant/hotel/night club entrepreneuring industry. I know Cornell has a top hospitality program, but I am interested to know which other colleges have the best undergraduate programs in this field. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

UNLV(Univ. of Nevada, Las Vegas) has been right up there with Cornell when it comes to Hotel Management. Its one of the top majors on campus and they are starting a really cool program that involves the school actually having its own hotel (not a big one, I assume) so that students have the experience of putting their skills to use. Of course, there are a lot of hotels in Vegas, so I'm sure finding the place to put skills to use is no problem, but having their own hotel is a plus. Its definitely a school to check out if your interested in Hotel Management.

Strange as it may seem, U of WI - Stout has a very reputable program that Marriott likes to recruit from. I did not attend there, but I did work for the Marriott Corporation and many of my fellow managers did go there. Little plug here for MC, their management training program is incredible, do everything you can to at least interview with them if you do pursue that career. Incidentally, myself and most of my fellow managers were business majors from LACs.

I DID say that WI would seem odd, but it is true. Having been in the field, I can say from first hand that location of the school is really not a factor, it is more about what you learn while you are there. A great hotelier once said that being good in the hospitality business is about two basic principles "...good eats and clean sheets"...all the rest he said was a bunch of fluff that didn't mean a whole lot of anything.
