<p>I will be in New Haven for an athletic event at Yale next weekend, never been there before. Any recommendations for a decently priced hotel close to the campus?</p>

<p>‘Courtyard by Marriott New Haven at Yale’ is just outside the Yale campus and you can just walk to it.</p>

I used to really like the Colony Inn when my DD went there, but they went through a major remodel a few years back her senior year and I have no idea if the rates now reflect the remodel. The rates before were very good and it was very close to campus. The Courtside Marriot is on the other side of campus but close to the gym if that’s where your athletic event will be held. I wasn’t a huge fan of that Marriot myself and was so put off by their rates and policies around graduation that I wouldn’t stay there, but it may end up being your best bet. Be sure to request a room in the back of the hotel – it seems to be on the street that all vehicles with sirens take. Also, at the Colony Inn, the rooms in the back give you a nice view of the campus and are quieter. If all things are equal, I’d choose the Colony Inn – it’s also closer to more restaurants. I think there are a few others, but I didn’t try them although I did stay at the Omni once – a little bit further (not much) and much more expensive, although nice. Oh, and be sure to mention to the Colony Inn you are there for an athletic event at Yale. It might not count, but they are pretty good about giving discounts to Yale families and seem to give a wide definition to that term – you might be able to get a discount.</p>

<p>The Omni is the nicest. All are near some Yale building. The Omni is right near many restaurants and more “downtown”, the Marriot is walking distance from the Payne Whitney gym and some dorms, but nothing is too far. They do have a wide variety of food choices, cheap Mexican and hamburgers which are excellent, Thai, Vegetarian (Claires is great) American, Pizza, you wont be hungry!</p>
<p>The Colony Inn is now called The Study at Yale. I’m not sure what the rates are, but they have a website if you do a google search.</p>
<p>Thank you very much for all your advice. We’re not a Yale family - our D is playing in a tournament held at the campus - but it sounds like we have a lot of good options.</p>
<p>We recently stayed at the Study at Yale. It was really comfortable and lovely, and it’s located right in the middle of campus.</p>
