My son (rising college soph) and daughter (rising HS senior) will be visiting Muhlenberg soon. Due to distance, they'll have to stay overnight. Where would you recommend they stay? As a mom, I need it to be safe. And they'd probably like to walk to food from their room, although that's not a must-have. Which hotel do you recommend?

Most of the nearby hotels are “Dorney Park” (amusement park) oriented this time of year. The Wyndham/Wingate is probably the nicest. There are several hotels in the same area, Comfort Suites, Holiday Inn Express etc. A little further out of town (Route 100) there is another strip of Hampton, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites etc - that area is probably 10 to 15 minutes from Muhlenberg but will not be as infested by amusement park goers.

Over four years, we have stayed at many of the places pkrajsa mentioned. For the last few stays, the Wyndham/Wingate earned our loyalty. I felt the Comfort Suites became more and more run down, and the Holiday Inn was charging a bit more for rooms than Wingate.

When I was making reservations for D’s graduation last winter, the Wingate had no vacancies, but when I was there in March, I asked them about it. They told me to call back about two weeks before graduation, as they often end up with some cancellations. So I made a reservation somewhere else, and when I was there again in late April, I asked the desk clerk about graduation weekend, and she was able to get us a room, and for a price far below what the other places were asking. I think they had kind of gotten the idea that we had become loyal to them over the last 1½-2 years.
