We would appreciate some ideas. Also, should we rent a car or take Supershuttle? We also saw that a few hotels in the area offer shuttle services to and from UMD, anyone with experiences with how convenience and reliable that is? Thanks so much.

If “we” is a family, I would suggest that you go to Travelocity and choose one of the hotels in Greenbelt. Just about 5 miles east of campus, the hotels there are more geared to the business traveler (and the Holiday Inn usually has wedding parties on the weekend)…much nicer rooms than what you will find in College Park. If you can stay at the Marriott on campus for a reasonable price, that, too, is an option. (But usually it is far more expensive than the hotels in Greenbelt…it all depends on what is going on in the area). I personally prefer the luxury to drive around, so if I fly up to Baltimore, I usually rent a car and drive down to CP.

Thanks. Our D will be interviewing for B/K scholarship and I will be going along to check the out the campus. The travel voucher is for airport shuttle (for her) but I am thinking that it might be better to rent a car since we are flying in the day before and it will be nice to have the flexibility of where to go out for dinner, etc…Any suggestion for restaurants will be great.

I would rent a car. Both my boys are there as Freshman. A great school…so much to offer. There is a hotel on campus. We stay at the Sheraton in Beltsville…4 miles away

The hotel (Marriott) on campus is quite expensive (over $200/night) so I’m hoping to do a little better with hotels a few miles away.

I have stayed several times at the Holiday in on rt 1. Very convient to campus and they have a free shuttle that will take you to the college.

My D is a sophomore. We always stay at the Hampton Inn on Rt 1. Nice staff, nice breakfast, clean and good parking and has a small pool and gym. very comfortable and always a good price for what is essentially some place to sleep.

Krug:

There are many hotels in Greenbelt and it is very easy to get UMCP campus if you drive (we stayed there for swim meets for a few years).
Congratulations to your daughter for B/K invite. I noticed your posting re scholar program at NEU. My daughter is invited for that, but did not get invitation from UMCP. Perhaps we will see you in Boston?

Thanks ebhelper for the congrats. Congrats to your D for being a University Scholar and we will see you in Boston in March. With all the suggestions, we will definitely rent a car for UMD. D feels extremely fortunate to have been given this opportunity since there are so many deserving applicants.
