Hotel recommendations (for interview stay)?

I'm accompanying my daughter for her interview. Anyone know of any decent hotels around USC, hopefully walking distance from campus, where we can stay for the interview? I'm trying to figure out the trade-offs:

option 1: renting a car and staying further away, but probably cheaper hotel

option 2: staying close, prob. more expensive hotel, but save on car rental

There is a Radisson right across the street but I would recommend getting one of the 'pricey' rooms because the standard rooms at that Radisson are kind of gross (found hair in the beds before we got in them and the sheets were damp and smelled of mold...but then we were upgraded and it was fine).

Hope that helps!

There are also several nice hotels downtown and you could take a bus back and forth without having to rent a car.

The DASH is a $.25 downtown bus service and the F route circles the USC campus before heading back to downtown on Figueroa Street. http://www.ladottransit.com/dash/

If you only plan to be on campus during the day, this bus option would open up a bunch of other hotels.

If you don't want to deal with renting a car, you can take Super Shuttle from the airport to campus or downtown hotels. (www.supershuttle.com) Does anyone know if downtown hotels offer free airport shuttles for guests?

Inn at 657

There's a really cool bed & breakfast within a mile of USC (easy walking distance), with off-street parking. Here's a website that has info about it & I have only read positive reviews about it. http://www.patsysinn657.com/said/said.html

I've never stayed there, but my son's room mate's mom stayed there when she visited for Parent's Weekend in October. I made reservations for this weekend, but S will be off skiiing, so I've switched to staying in Pasadena to be near my friend instead.

Anyway, it looks to be a great place to stay, but read the reviews at that site for yourself & decide.

Thanks for all the great pointers! Here's what I did in case anyone else wants an "implementation strategy"...

Used "Name your price" on priceline to get rooms for $90 per night at Westin Bonaventure Hotel (four-star), downtown (quite a deal, since the USC travel agents couldn't do better than $175 and the list price is over $200).

I'll use either the Supershuttle or call the hotel to see if they run private shuttles to LAX.

Looked up the DASH schedule (thanks Ned5555) and saw that the F route has stops at the hotel and all around campus - perfect.

the Omni downtown is nice and fairly cheap
