Hotel recommendations near Chapman?

I've seen the links on the Chapman page, of course, but would like to hear from people who have stayed in various places near campus.

I've just booked Ayres Inn Orange for Aug. 20, 21 and 22 for move-in. We stayed at Best Western last time, but this one looks a little nicer. Anyone else have suggestions?

We stayed at the Ayres Inn Orange last week (Thurs-Sun). It was fine. The convenience of the breakfast, which included eggs, bacon or sausage, was well worth it. I think we paid $109 a night after asking for a Chapman discount (even though we were there for preview day). Within a half mile we saw the Double Tree by Hilton (across the street) and another Hilton (sort of behind the Ayres Inn). When I got home I looked these up but they didn’t seem to include breakfast, but I could be wrong. Maybe that’s not important to you anyway. As we drove to Chapman we only saw the Best Western Orange Plaza which might be closer but I checked Trip Advisor and some comments said that the rooms, although non smoking, smelled of smoke.

My limited experience, would love to hear of others. The only thing closer seems to be the Bed and Breakfast, Ruta Inn, which is on Glassell near campus. I didn’t see any place to park your car, though, which may or may not be important to you.

Ruta’s, a mere half a block from Chapman, was great! And there’s parking in back. It only has three rooms, (one is a suite, meaning in addition to the bedroom and bathroom, there is also a fold out couch in a separate room with a TV.) It is a typical old town Orange bungalow style house built in 1910, but since renovated, I promise you. It is not the sort of B&B where the innkeeper fusses and flutters around you. You may not see anyone. They simply let you know the code to get in, and leave out do-it-yourself breakfast things like coffee, English muffins, fruit, cereal and yogurt. You come and go as you please. It can be slightly noisy because the garbage truck backs right up into the driveway beside your window, and there is apparently a permanent resident – perhaps the owner – in the apartment upstairs. Can’t beat it for location. I would definitely stay there again.

Thanks – Ruta sounds worth checking out. Ayres – darn, I didn’t think to ask for a Chapman discount. Breakfast when traveling with Large Child is definitely worth having included!
