Hotel Recommendations

Am going to be at UVA this summer. (About a half-mile northwest of campus.)

Just need a place for an overnight stay.

What are some good options?

Thanks.

Depends on your budget, transportation, etc?

Budget doesn’t really matter.
Unless there are $800/night rooms in C.
Looking for best value.

Not sure what transportation has to do with it but will be driving.

I don’t think you’ve given enough information. Where, specifically, do you need to be?

The big list: http://www.virginia.edu/placestostay/arealodging.html

A lot of people come stay at UVA without driving access, or alternatively come with a car and have trouble parking.

My parents always stay at the doubletree, it is nice. It is up near the walmart, which sounds further than where you are. There’s a hotel near Hydraulic Rd which sounds closer, but I’ve never stayed there. It’s near the place that delivers Hibachi… There are a number of nice hotels in the Pantops area, which is east of grounds.

We’ve had good experiences at the Courtyard University Medical Center on West Main Street and the Residence Inn on Millmont Street near the Barracks Road area. Both hotels were in excellent condition. The Courtyard is ideally located for parking your car and then walking to campus; however, I’ve noticed it’s often very expensive for that brand.

I’ve stayed at the Doubletree mentioned in post 5 and enjoyed it. It’s a 10-15 minute drive from campus in a fairly congested commercial area.

If budget is no issue, might as well throw Boar’s Head Inn into the ring.

If you are interested in a B&B the Dinsmore House Inn is lovely with large rooms and is also centrally located. You can walk to grounds easily. They actually share parking with the Courtyard.

Thanks!

plus three characters to post.

Want to recommend the English Inn about 1-2 miles from the UVA campus. My daughter and I stayed there last year and the room rate was the cheapest night on our college tour. The hotel is tudor style with a pool and I remember that the beds were so comfortable. It is a great stay for the value and you can get to campus in 5 minutes. We parked in the garage near the Alumni building and it was easy as could be. If I remember correctly it was also rated very high on tripadvisor and that is how I picked it (plus the rate was alot cheaper). You get breakfast in the morning and warm cookies at checkin. My daughter left a beloved t shirt in the room which I was sure was a goner since it was white like the sheets. Sure enough it got scooped up with the linens but the manager put me in touch with the house staff who laundered the shirt and sent it back to me clean and pressed free of charge.

First rule of Cville hotels - if it is very cheap, there is a good reason.

Second rule: book as early as humanly possible. There is a real shortage of rooms whenever there is a big event. There are many weekends with high demand. If you can’t get a Cville hotel, an alternative is to go to Waynesboro, to the west on I-64.

Cavalier Inn is reasonable and convenient (about $90/night). Farther out on RT 29, Fairfield Inn is the best value for $$ (about $110/night). More expensive but excellent are Double Tree on RT 29 or Hilton Garden on Rt 250.
Best of the best if $$ is no object: Board’s Head Inn or Omni downtown.

Also consider renting a condo or house. Maybe people do it for graduation and reunions.

We rented a cabin about 25 minutes from campus when we visited last summer and will be doing so again. Lydia Mountain Cabins - plus our family had space and fun place to retreat to.
