I know the Wash U site has hotel recommendations listed- Knight Center, Crown Plaza, Ritz Carleton, and Sheraton Plaza Clayton, but I'd like to comaprison shop a little more.
I think we want to stay either close to the school or close to the airport.
Thanks!

Knight Center is right on campus. Moonrise Hotel is a new boutique hotel in the Delmar Loop, short walking distance to campus, and spitting distance to the Metro stop, which will take you to & from the airport.

We stay at the Knight Center every time we come to campus IF it is available. It has very convenient on-line booking and the rate is either $109 or $129, I guess depending on how busy the dates are. You won’t find anything anywhere close to as nice as the Knight Center for those prices. Knight Center has never charged us for parking, if we drive a car in. When we fly, we take the MetroLink from the airport and the Big Bend stop is just a very short walk to the hotel. Breakfast is free and includes just about anything you could want - hot or cold. The hotel even has a pantry on each floor with free snacks and drinks! AND, if you stay awhile, they have free washers and dryers for you to use AND the laundry detergent is provided. The hotel provides a variety of newspapers for free each morning - Wall Street Journal, USAToday, St. Louis paper, etc. We have also had dinner a few times at the Knight Center’s “Pub” when we come to campus quickly, such as for one of our D’s concerts. The Pub is very small, but the food is good and has a great atmosphere. You can sit, looking out the windows at intramural teams practicing, students walking to and fro, etc.

We’ve also stayed at the Ritz Carlton and Sheraton CP. Ritz is of course wonderful, is only a short drive down Forsyth, but is horribly expensive. Sheraton CP is also nice and has a lot of nice restaurants within walking distance. Both charge for parking. My older daughter stayed at the Crowne Plaza for work once and thought it was a little run down.

Here’s a 2008 thread that’s helpful:

We always stay at the Hampton Inn- Forest Park. It was new when my daughter was a freshman, and now she’s a senior. We have never been disappointed, and it is easy to get to again now that the overpasses are finished! Plenty of free parking, and even has a sports bar attached, convenient when you are too tired to drive anywhere - though you are close to the fabulous restaurants on The Hill!

We originally stayed at the hotels in Clayton - never happy.

thanks for the suggestions.
I should have mentioned that we won’t have a car, so either free shuttles or metro access is important.

thanks for that link, palmalk! It has great info.

Now thinking that the free breakfast/snacks at the Knight Center makes it a great possibility. So we might do 2 nights there and a 3rd at a cheaper hotel by the airport for our early flight out.

If budget isn’t a concern, the Chase Park Plaza is one of the most elegant hotels I’ve ever been in. It’s going to me more expensive than other nearby hotels, but this is St Louis so it may be cheaper than what your frame of reference is.

It is right at the edge of Forest Park in the Central West End, so just over 5 minutes from Wash U. It has a movie theatre and nice restaurants in the hotel. My parents stayed there once when visiting bc they got a good rate, and they said they’ve never been more impressed by a hotel’s service and accomodations in recent memory.
