Hotel Recommendations

Yes, it does! thank you. I also got him to book at Sheraton Gateway LAX, $115 LMU rate, parking is $25 a night, while we “talk” about it.

@shrinkrap: are you coming in end of August when school starts, or is there another orientation before that? Is your son/daughter a frosh or transfer? Our son will be a frosh, we’re going for welcome weekend, around the 26th of August. Good luck…let me know if you want any tips on places to eat, see, shop, etc., since we are very familiar with the area!

End of August for “orientation II”. I found this;

Any opinions on the hotels mentioned?

Son is actually going down tomorrow for a summer program. Gulp…

Shrinkrap,

There is a The Kettle restaurant in Manhattan Beach? Last time we ate there it wasn’t great, but it used to be.

Check out The Habit. There is one near the airport. It’s a hamburger place, kind of like a Chipotle. Sandwiches, salads and hamburgers that are amazing!

It’s six AM on a Sunday, and he’s gone.

Gulp.

I will check out “The Habit”; thanks!

I have stayed at the Courtyard Westside in Culver City, and the Courtyard on Century Blvd right next to LAX (literally!). The one next to the airport was nicer - newer and larger rooms. But, I actually prefer the Culver City due to location - it is just quieter. Think the hotels at the airport offer really good rates, so you probably get a nicer room for the money. But I did not care for the craziness and busy-ness of the lobby, parking lot, streets around the hotel, when we stayed by LAX. You get all those people in a hurry to get their flight. Breakfast was a zoo, check out was a long line, and had to wait forever to get our car (only valet parking) so I would not stay there again, due to that - even though the room was a bit nicer.

The Renaissance may be a very nice hotel, but the negative would be the LAX location. But, do look at parking fees, and add it into the cost of your room, as they can be a lot! (have seen $30/day).

I am constantly looking online for the best price around the area, and think the Courtyard Culver City, Bristol parkway is the nicest for the price, and parking rate, and location. For $117 plus $10 parking it is the best deal. Also, be sure to check other rates - I have found that a AAA rate, or the hotel"s “best deal” sometimes beats the LMU rate - so be sure to check that out.

Good luck and enjoy orientation!
