Our family tried to make a visit to Tulane over the Xmas holidays but my son got sick on the day of departure so we had to cancel. The hotel cost at that time was $130 per night for a double. The same hotel is now $330 for a King in the beginning of April . Pretty pricey for a Hampton Inn. I thought prices were only like that around Mardi Gras.

Any other suggestions? We were really trying to stay in the Garden District and Away from the FQ.

That’s because the NCAA Final Four is in New Orleans this year. Bad timing. Not sure anything will be cheap, but maybe out towards the airport?

Last Easter, we stayed at the Intercontinental on St. Charles and liked it very much. We are also scheduled to stay there again this Easter. It is, however, not in the Garden District. I believe it’s considered the Business District. I thought the location was great, a few block away from the FQ. We were able to get a double room with a balcony for $116.00 per night plus $32.00 valet parking per day. The valet parking was a bit inconvenient. I know when I’ve stayed at some of the places in the Garden District you were able to just walk to the lot and get your car. Here you have to call down a few minutes in advance or, in the alternative, wait for it when you get downstairs. I like to go down as often as possible and have stayed at many different places, both in the Garden District and French Quarter, and this one was one of my favorites.

The above post was from me (gabbysmom) not Gabby. I am using her old laptop and it logged me on as her for some reason.

Ah, those cookies. So tasty yet so dangerous.

Anyway, I like the Intercontinental as well, lovely hotel. But I am afraid there is no way the rooms will be under $300 during Final Four week. I heard that in Indianapolis during Super Bowl weekend rooms that normally go for about $120 or even under $100 sometimes (Hampton Inn) were $500. I have stayed at that Hampton Inn in downtown Indy for business sometimes, and I cannot remotely fathom $500 a night. But that is how it goes at these events.

It will depend on when they are going. We are going from April 6 - April 9.

I’m taking my D to NOLA for the Easterbreak. We got a room at the Riverside Hilton for $99/night. I actually did better on pricing when I didn’t ask for the Tulane rate. I went with internet rates and they were cheaper, almost everytime. I haven’t stayed in this hotel before, but I remember seeing it and I think the location is great and it looked really nice from the street. The only sticking point was that once you book there wasn’t a cancellation option. You are charged up front for the hotel and if you can’t make it then you lose it.:(

Dangareedoll - Thats a great rate! We stayed at the Riverside Hilton the first time we went to look at Tulane. It is a very nice hotel and the streetcar stops right outside.

Gabby116mom: I was very happy with it too. Like I said I remember seeing it when we were there last year looking at Tulane for my S and I thought the location was great. So for the price it was a no brainer.

I have stayed at the Riverside Hilton about a dozen times on business (it is connected to the convention center, essentially) and about 6 times while visiting. It is not on the St. Charles Streetcar line, I think you maybe have it confused with the other Hilton that is downtown? It is about a 6-8 block walk to that streetcar line which goes to Tulane, but still I think it is great, personally. It is connected to the Riverwalk shopping area, which has a Cafe du Monde inside, FYI.

Since I always stay at Hilton properties while traveling, I know exactly the deal you are talking about Dungaree. It definitely saves money. The restaurant in the hotel, Drago’s, is a nice place to eat, especially when you are just too tired to get out again after a long day seeing New Orleans.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was referring to the Riverfront Streetcar.
