Hotel Rwanda

I just finished watching it, and I hate living in world were things like this happen. Being African myself this was very close to my heart. My life is so complicated. My family left Nigeria, and moved to South Africa when apartheid had just ended. Learning about the civil rights movement, it kind of brings a person down. Black people always struggled no matter what. Not to be racist or anything, but white people also go it their way..Even in the movie America came to save their people. Personally I don't like living in America, I dislike it alot..but gosh life is cruel and unfair, and as I sit here and type this I realize how much I am grateful for..The reason I was watching the movie was that I am in club called Youth for Change, and we are showing the moive on Friday on a big screen in our school Auditiorium for the public. We are going to show some images from the Rwanda genocide, and try to get Donations to save Darfur..I founded an HIV/AIDS committe to help raise money for the HIV/AIDS crisis.. Just listen to me, take a deep breath and whatever you are going through, it is nothing compared to genocide, or HIV/AIDS crises. You should be grateful for what you have, it is doenst matter whether you dind't get into your perfect college, do you realize thousand kids in Africa would die to go to a community college, to a school, to have an education..At least you have an education, at least you have a purpose, a chance. Carry that purpose, and hold your head high. Forget what everyone else says you will make it.
Peace

i showed this movie in my amnesty club just before christmas break :)

Yay, another Nigerian! But good post, I feel where you are coming from.

I felt that way after seeing Born into Brothels. Three days ago, I wanted to rent Hotel Rwanda, but a friend got War of the Worlds instead (i was laughing in that movie). I think I'll rent Hotel Rwanda tonight.

We did pretty much the same thing. We showed it as a movie night for our Project Darfur club at school, as a fundraiser--there was a really big turn out, it was really cool. We're havng a big action week next week, to go along with MLK--"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere," etc. I'm excited! Hotel Rwanda always makes me cry sooo much.

I'm reading "Shaking Hands with the Devil" right now... it's horrible what happened. I want to work in International Politics to make sure things like that and other atrocities being committed today are stopped.

Oh, and even though it's not the happiest film (much like Hotel Rwanda), you should watch "The Constant Gardener". It's about the pharmaceutical corporations corrupt work in Africa with the HIV/AIDS crisis.

Since the Europeans left, and considering they are the only group of ppl that maintain order, I'd expect Africa a mess... hence SOuth Africa the best place in Africa. after apartheid it's this: first euro population, third world country.

I finally saw Hotel Rwanda. Intense movie. I'm an AI member and cardholder, so it's just right that I finally watched it.

I think I'll watch The Constant Gardener next.

made me cry. and made me ****ed at the UN.

well i'm Nigerian too.
didn't watch the movie but heard about it.

That sounds awesome what you are doing, Ohiogirl. I want to get involved in organizations like that when I go to college.

...believe it or not, HR is tied with "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" for my favourite film of 2004.

A bump for this thread.

Hotel Rwanda was a very touching movie.
