umm..yeah...I never heard of 800 words instead of an interview. Are you an international student or something?

Also, the 470 won't get covered. If you submit any SAT scores, all of them get sent in.

even intl. most of the times they find alumns.... i thought.

well, about the 470, they'll see it, but it won't be "considered" officially, I think. Obviously, they'll look at your 2 best, but they'll still see it, but I don't think you need to retake.

Yeah I know they'll see it. Just worried it'll play a big role. So far, nobody's told me to retake it, as long as I have two other scores. (since I'm not applying to Harvard, Gtown, and other schools that want 3)

I live in China but I'm not international. I'm a US citizen with an address, pay income tax, etc. Just here temporarily (Yeah, 4 years may seem 'temporarily' for my parents, but not for me!).
I requested for an interview and stated a major city next to me. A day later they replied telling me to fill out this form, which were basically 4 interview questions, limited to 200 words each.

Oh, and why not stop by at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=386538 :)

for me...i am basically

ACT: 27, retaking two times (one in september in new york state)
SAT II: 530 (i have studied all summer to retake that...)
GPA: 3.65 uw/ 3.9 w
captain of varsity regatta crew, captain of varsity sprint crew, dorm prefect, head of philanthropy society

independent study -- i am basically planner of my schools centennial with 4 other adults...it is a really big deal, kind of like Hotel Ezra Cornell without the hotel....

experience working at the front desk of a Crowne Plaza hotel for one summer

Cornell summer college- getting recommendation from professor and final grade in course: A-

i need to work on my test scores. :(

If you get your test scores up dande1114, i think you havea REALLY good chance cause you worked at a hotel and you're getting a rec from a prof at cornell. lucky you =] haha. i'm jealous.

thanks password! i certainly hope ill get them up...

i cant believe i got an A- at cornell....i worked so so hard so i hope that pays off...

June SAT: CR = 520 Math = 550 Writing = 390 Total = 1460

I didn't really study for the June SAT's and I messed up big time for the MC of the Writing Section while my Essay score went from a 7 in March to a 9 in June. I'm currently studying vigorously on SAT Vocab and doing alot of Practice Tests for the October SATs. I'm aiming for a 1800.(600,600,600)

I have alot of extracurriculars however:
Freshmen Football
4 Years JV Spring Track and Field
4 Years Marching Band = Saxophone Section Leader
4 Years Concert Band = Band President
3 Years Jazz Band
1 Year Pit Band
3 Years Academic Dec. (recieved numerous medals)
4 Years Interact
3 Years Horticulture
1 Year Poetry
1 Year DECA (only for marketing students)
1 Year SAVE(Environmental) = Vice President

jimgotkp, do you have any hospitality experience? Cause well, your grades aren't the best. Some of your extracurriculars are band, and the others don't have that much leadership role. So, if you have hospitatliy experience, you'd have a better shot. But DEFINITELy work on your GPA and SAT scores. maybe your SAT 2s are better? Good luck =]]

I don't know jimgotkp.... even if u get a 1800, it will still be kinda tough because the average score is still higher than an 1800...and dont take it personally but your A in sex ed and band wont be too impressive to the admission officer.

Dont give up hope though, work in the industry a bit. Come VERY prepared for your interview..who knows.

yeah yeah i know. this is a BIG REACH school since cornell was my dream school specifically the SHA since like middle school. im just seeing if i can make it. if i get rejected than i want to go to purdue.. loved their campus.

My D is 33 ACT, 2270 SAT, 3.7 uw (all AP's) at school that sends over 10% to Ivies. Undecided between Arts and Hotel.

Cornell SHA > Harvard in my opinion.

Asian/American from California
UW GPA - 3.98, WGPA - 4.32+
SAT - 1960, superscore 2000, retaking in October
SATII - Math IIc 710, Chemistry 680, US History 640 =(
(Testing is not my forte)

Senior Schedule
PE/Marching Band
AP European History
Honors Physics
AP English 4
AP Statistics
AP Calculus AB
AP Government/Economics

Extracurricular Activities/Leadership/Achievements and Awards
Marching Band - Drum Major, USA Drum Major All Star
FBLA - Club President, Section Vice President (this is what got me interested in SHA) - various competitive awards + tons of community service hours

Mock Trial
Rose Parade Student Ambassador
California Boys' State Delegate
etc.

The most Hotel experience I have is staying at different ones for FBLA conferences.

How significant is hotel work experience to the overall application?

yayy! FBLA!!

wait wait...what section in California are you in afchang? Im in Bay Section, competed at Nationals and all that jazz. Fun stuff!

hotel experiences are very significant...like people keep on saying 85% of the incoming students have some hospitality experiences. See they look at that cause alot of students dont really know what htey are getting into. Hospitality is all about working your way up the foodchain so you know how hte operation works. Its not all about glamour and wine like they make it seem in the common media. Instead, its hours of housekeeping, then supervising, then managing under someone else. Then if you are good enough, you may be promoted. You have to be really serious. I suggest ED, your lack of experience may come across as lack of interest, since ed is binding, it should be helpful in your case. Good luck afchang.

And red crumble, does your daughter have hospitality experience? Is she going to ED? or is cornell like her lesser ivy. She does have good stats. But my best friend had a 35 on his ACt and still didnt get in so yeah, I'd need more stats to really be able to predict chances

Red Crumble- I agree with apple apple, your D's stats are good, but the lack of experience might make it seem like she's just applying to hotel school cause it's "easier". I would say AEM over Hotel.

af chang- your ec's are good. your stats aren't the best. And the lack of experience also isn't a plus. But I think you have a shot =]

hey apple apple! are you a hotelie? =]]

yepp im a hotelie!

really?? Cool! What year are you?
