Hi,

I'm thinking to apply to Cornell Hotel School, but I haven't taken APs or honors (AP European History in my senior year).. so just one AP and 2 English intensive class.

I'm currently doing internship at Holiday Inn, in which I think will take big part in admission.. could anyone answer to that question please?

I was involved in many Travel/Hospitality activities and as I will in the future.
Would that take lots of impact?

By the way I live in Hawaii.

Holiday Inn Waikiki's Director of Human Resources (or possibly GM) told me that he/she will write a recommendation for my internship.

Looks great to me. With your experience you should have an amazing interview, and arrange to have it on-campus if you can. I had an employer recommendation in addition to the teacher recs, and I think it really helped me. Good luck! :)

You guys totally underestimtae the difficulty of cornell admissions..your gpa is fair at best and your scores, based on what you have indicated are potentially weak...I dont see a strong part of your application..maybe I am missing something, bujt your chances are lelss than 50%

wait how do you work in hotel from 9-4 monday to friday? does that mean you arent in school?

Summer vacation until early August..

Sports, the most important factor in Hotel School admissions is work experience and passion for the industry. Obviously his academic record is very important, but with a 3.7 GPA he seems to be on the right track. SAT scores are the only other fact we'd really need to know to make a fair judgement.

I'm not underestimating the difficulty of Cornell admissions seeing as I got in Early Decision for 2009. If you'd like to see my stats it's probably the first thing I ever posted on here.

I think that the hotel school, compared to most of the other colleges, is where you are required to understand the dynamics of the real world more than anything. What we study relates directly to the service industry. There are ample case studies and internship opportunities while you're there, and there's no better way to build a foundation for the concepts of the industry than to intern at institutions beforehand. Definitely second hotelie on sending in a rec by your employer. From my small sample of one person (points to self :)), they seem quite interested in how you fare beyond the classroom.

Good luck!

cornell2009hotelie, could you please post your stats if you dont mind.. im interested in applying early decision for 2010 and it would be of great assitance. thanks.

just search for her first few posts and if she posted them you'll find them.

I PMed my stats to you because for some reason I had it saved in my old messages. Hope it helps! :)

If Princeton is known for its economics and Harvard for its law.. then Cornell is known for it Hotel Program..... one of the most important an the most competitive aspect of that university... you might get some advantage.. since you are from HAWAII... otherwise.. not taking more AP's is not really positive.. however... if you do not get atleast a 2150 or above on the SATs... then it is impossible.. for the hotel atleast
GOOD LUCK

I wasn't aware of an SAT cutoff at cornell? (yes, that was a question).

Does your school not offer alot of APs, because if it only offers a few, then you're fine.

oh no my school offers like AP calc, chem, bio, european history, literature, and english.

OH by the way how much SAT impact for Cornell Hotel School?
my score is really bad.

I'm weighing between NYU or Cornell ED versus Switzerland hotel schools.

CornellHoteliere2009 , could you PM me your stats?

By the way as of 8/21, I worked 220 hours.. and probably it will reach about 300 hours at ED deadline.

Does living in Hawaii help on admin.. like some people said above?
