hotel school

I've heard from many people that their interview lasted for only 20 minutes, or half an hour and that the prof only asked one question. However, then there are people who's interview was almost an hour and got asked numerous questions. Why is the procedure so different for everyone??

I think it varies based on who the interviewer is. I had a professor and it lasted for about an hour I guess. Afterwards he took me on a more extended tour of statler and introduced me to other professors. Just be yourself and answer all of the questions honestly. Obviously before you go think about why you want to go to the school and what you can bring and maybe just review some of your experiences so you have something to talk about. Best of luck but don't worry about the time thing. Some profs like to ramble and tell their stories that they tell every student and some are really busy and try to do it much quicker. Either way the admissions staff knows what each prof is like and can get a feel for you through them. Even if you get a hardss they know and will be fair

My D's interview lasted almost an hour. She waited for her interviewer in the lobby instead of in the admissions office ( big mistake) was 30 min late! She said the interview went well though & the interviewer did not seem upset and did not rush her. Apologized & also sent note. D. did not have a tour as she took a class at the hotel school last summer. She said only formal question was " where did she see herself in the future?" Rest of interview just informal conversation.

But if the interview lasts for only like 20 minutes, how will the prof get to know the student?? Is it typically better to get asked a lot of questions which shows that the prof is interested in you??

How competitive is admittance into the Hotel School?

Victorious- the interview lasts about an hour as both me and mom721 said so i'm not sure where you came up with 20 minutes. And in an hour you can get a pretty good idea about a person.

PeaTerGriffin- It's very competitive as it is an Ivy school and is the premier university for hospitality. However, with that said the student body is not necessarily comprised of the pinnacle of intellectual elite. Rather than showing quite as much in school you need to show an interest in the field ie work experience. You don't need stellar SATs or GPA compared with typical Cornellian, but there are other things such as the interview with a prof that you have to be able to express why this school would be a good fit for you

Someone just told me that their interview lasted for about 20-30 minutes. =/

I think it really depends on who you get. But still the interviewers are factuly at the school and are very busy. Each student that applies has to get an interview so even in 20-30 minutes you can still really sell your case.

Does anyone get offer from Hotel admissions for Spring 2006 ED?
