We are visiting in March, will be staying for 1 night on Sunday to visit GT on Monday. Any hotel suggestions? Thanks.

There are several hotels on the Tech website. We stayed at the Hampton right next to campus and it was great. Shuttle/walk to campus, walk to Marta, close to Turner Field and the downtown Atlanta attractions, free breakfast. Hotels charge for parking and you may have to leave your car a few blocks away. Make sure to ask for the Tech rate, most give discounts.

The Hampton is nice, but it’s a chain (not bad if you like Chains, but it’s not really an “experience”). I usually recommend the GT Hotel for convenience (it’s not too expensive - usually $100-$120). Also within walking distance is the Georgian Terrace (but usually a little more expensive).

As far as chain hotels go, the aforementioned Hampton is available, there’s the Four Seasons a block north of Campus, the Marriott Midtown is right next door to the Four Seasons and a Residence Inn between both of those and campus.

I used to recommend the Courtyard on 14th street. Unfortunately that was torn down to allow for the 14th street bridge/expansion.

Thanks^^. Should we rent a car from the airport or try the public transport? We are four of us, each one will have one hand luggage only.

I answered your hotel question on another thread. We’ll be staying on campus at the GA Tech Convention Center. I checked out all the hotels within walking distances and this won hands down. We are going 2/25 so I can let you know when we return how it was.

It is very easy and fast to get from the airport to the school. There are great directions and maps on the school web site and the MARTA web site. PM me if you have any questions. We’re also going to Boston and LA but not until the end of March. I think you’re leaving before then.

MY S is a Junior and probably will be applying to many of the same schools yours did.

^^ Yes i did see your reply to my other thread. I have a senior and a soph son. Our spring break starts Mar 18th and this trip covers colleges for both sons. The younger one wants to see LMU in LA so we will do that on our last day before we take off from LA. Doing USC as well.

GTech decision will come out on Mar 15th, its going to be a weird trip to ATL since we will have to arrange for the flights/hotel/transport sometime now. Wondering if we should just tour ATL and skip GT if he does not get in??? Coz S2 is definitely not the GT type.

pixeljig-Are you still going to Vandy? I think you could drive from one to the other. There are tons of schools in Atlanta. It is also a great city with a super Aquarium, not that you have extra time. You might want to set up Tech (you can always cancel) and have another school (Emory?) as Plan B for S2. Let me know if you need any more into on Tech.

Thanks FI, we are not visiting Vandy due to lack of time. We have relatives who work at the hospital there and vouch for Vandy for son!! So if he gets in we will be on cloud 9, but we are not visiting.

Perhaps if he gets rejected at GT and accepted at Vandy (big IF) then we might just drive up or fly there if son wants to see it. That will end up being a last minute trip.

I do not know how GT decision will turn out, Son has sent in the extra stuff now we just have to wait. Haven’t purchased the flights yet.

GPB>>>I used to recommend the Courtyard on 14th street. Unfortunately that was torn down to allow for the 14th street bridge/expansion.

GPB, are you still in Atlanta? That place is still open. Drove by it today.

[Midtown hotel in Atlanta, Ga: Courtyard Atlanta Midtown hotel - A Georgia Tech Hotel](http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/atlmn-courtyard-atlanta-midtown-georgia-tech/)

I must be losing my mind. That’s a good place to stay.

Wasn’t something torn down in that area? Maybe I’m thinking of 14th and Spring. Wasn’t there a hotel there?

Not a bad idea. If that’s the case, I would recommend staying downtown near the Aquarium / World of Coke / CNN / Philips Arena / Centennial Olympic Park. I am not as familiar with that area, but the Omni is nice.

^ Don’t know if you like art either but the High museum is going to be doing a classic cars exhibit (you just missed the da Vinci one, unfortunately).
