S is auditioning at Boston University (MM in voice), and he is looking for a hotel that is near Symphony Hall but also an easy MBTA ride to BU. Any suggestions? Thanks!

My son auditioned for NEC. I scoped out hotels, and I decided on the Summerfield in Burlington. It was only $80/night for a suite. His audition was on a Sunday, so I knew traffic wasn’t going to be bad. It is a lot more expensive to stay near downtown. I have no idea if there is a T stop near Burlington.

My son just auditioned at NEC for MM in Vocal Perforamnce. I just usually go to the schools website and look for the hotel/motel closest to the school. This was 2 blocks away. They give an audition rate also in Feb/March (alot of the hotels near the schools do this). Anyway, he stayed at the Midtown Hotel in Boston…$85. a night. Turns out he said it was old and a dump though, lol. But the location was good for him. But, you can always go to the school website and do the same thing I did. There were alot of hotels to choose from, I was just being cheap! lol

The Midtown is old…and not fancy…but it’s very adequate (and the price less expensive than the swanky Marriot and Westin just down the street) for a college student. In fact, I stayed there for a wedding. Not plush, but very convenient.

We got the Doubletree for $75 on Priceline.

Hilton Back Bay is the one NEC recommends. We have stayed either at the Westin Copley Place or The Colonnade, both within walking distance, both a little pricey. It really depends on what you feel like spending, but walking distance places are few. Think I’ll check out the Doubletree next time!

I love the Sheraton. It’s pricey but offers deals and is a Starwood hotel.

Your suggestions are so helpful in navigating between BU’s list, places we stayed when S auditioned as an undergraduate and hotel listings by zipcode. Thank you so much–I will post the final decision and later, S’s opinion of the choice. The undergraduate audition trips were stressful for him, but fun for me. I, of course, am not going with him this time.

When we’re in Boston we always stay at Copley Square! It is only one T stop away from Boston Conservatory, Berklee, and NEC. It’s a great boutique hotel with very comfortable rooms! :)

Copley Square wins! They are having a “sneak peek” sale, and while it is more expensive than some of the other choices, it is in the perfect spot. Thank you, everyone!

Yay Copley! I’m staying there this weekend too!

Hi, performer! S will be there on Feb. 21. Good luck on your auditions!

We have gotten $65/night rates in the Fairfield Inn and the Town Place (suites) Marriott hotels in Andover-Tewksbury. If you don’t mind the commute in, which isn’t bad, we found both to be comfortable and right of 495.

That said, are any of the Boston downtown hotels mentioned on this thread less than the Colonnade’s NEC audition rate ($159)? We have a tight turnaround and have to stay in town for the actual audition.

You might want to check the John Jeffries House. It’s off of Beacon Street near the red line and Mass General. The T makes anything IN Boston an “easy commute” and this is a Bread and Breakfast IN Boston. I think the prices are less than $159 a night and they include breakfast, I believe.

I am pretty sure the Hilton Back Bay is less than the Colonnade. They also have an NEC audition rate.

turns out most hotels in back bay will match the nec audition rate offered by the colonnade if you ask; not all are walking distance to NEC but (as pointed out above)
a great place to stay in town is the Newbury Street Guest house (a b&b on Newbury street with a complimentary breakfast, beautifully appointed rooms, but usually only one bed per room). it’s right on Newbury street off Copley square, so convenient to BU, NEC, etc.
