We visited AU on August 1 and stayed at the Holiday Inn Georgetown. Their free shuttle service was great (to/from AU and Georgetown University). The room was clean and comfortable but a little tired looking (tub needed fresh caulking). They had complimentary cookies and lemonade at the desk, and offer a great breakfast buffet (not included). It’s about a $20 cab ride to/from Reagan National. I would stay there again.

@BlackCrow3 Did the shuttle really work like they claim? Could you get to and from where you needed to be on demand or was it hard to coordinate?

This is going back a few years…but when my son was interviewing at AU (he graduated a year ago–time flies) we had no problem using the shuttle from the Georgetown Holiday Inn to AU. We just asked questions/made arrangements at the front desk, where the staff was just so nice.

Once my son was at AU we liked to stay at the Embassy Suites in Friendship Heights/Chevy Chase. The Metro Red line is right in the building, and we liked the extra space and free breakfast. The AU/Tenleytown stop is only one stop away, and there is a free shuttle from the Metro stop to and from the AU campus–or a short, pretty 10 minute walk at short-mom pace.

we went a little off our norm this past weekend. We usually try to stay in DC…when we don’t we stay in Chevy Chase or Bethesda. If sightseeing isn’t part of the itinerary, I find no reason to pay DC prices. Thus the Residence Inn Bethesda or a number of other options on the red line. This weekend, we had a car due to move in, and we stayed across the river in Arlington. We had stayed in Arlington a few years back and I forget just how convenient it is. With a car, we were approx 10 minutes from campus. On Metro, its a bit longer as you have to go into DC and transfer to red line. Just another option…the beauty of DC is there are lots and lots of options, especially outside of the downtown area. And lots of money to be saved…Arlington, Crystal City, Pentagon City, Bethesda, Chevy Chase…all very accessible with or without car…

JMD 1964 - which hotel did ypu stay at? Thank you.

We have stayed at the Rosslyn Courtyard and the Residence Inn-Courthouse whil in Arlington. Both very nice and very convenient…short walk to Metro and lots of services within a short walk. Up on red line we stay at the Bethesda Residence Inn…can you tell I use Marriott points?

Sorry for the delay in responding Living61. I haven’t logged in for a while.

The shuttle worked out very well for us. I arranged with staff at the front desk to find out when we’d need to be in the lobby to depart. For our return trips, I called the front desk and they coordinated with the driver. Our longest wait to return was about 15 minutes- not bad for a free ride (although I did tip the driver).

We ended up staying at the hotel on Georgetown’s campus because we were touring that school as well. Super convenient! I highly recommend it.
