NERVOUS.

Everyone’s stats looks really impressive. I am glad that I am applying as a transfer rather than a freshman. The acceptance rate is much more in our favor since there isn’t too many transfer applicants that apply according to the Fall 2008 hotel statistics.

Everyone’s stats look really impressive. I am glad that I am applying as a transfer rather than a freshman. The acceptance rate is much more in our favor since there isn’t too many transfer applicants that apply according to the Fall 2008 hotel statistics.

Transfer Statistics for Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration

Spring 2008 - 48 Applicants, 22 Admitted, 19 Enrolling

Fall 2008 - 198 Applicants , 64 Admitted, 56 Enrolling

Total - 247 Applicants, 86 Admitted, 75 Enrolling

Roughly a 35% admittance rate.

So basically 1 out of 3 chance or getting in. I’ll take that vs. the freshman acceptance rate or roughly 21%. It just comes down to the work experience and the academic history of your college to make you stand out.

For sure. Since it’s rolling admissions, I think we should be hearing back soon. I submitted my application Feb 15th, I’m assuming the earlier you submitted your app the earlier you hear back. It’s crazy to think that i should expect a notification within the next couple of days/weeks. My confidence level keeps going up and down. Idk :-

Yeah, I know what you mean. I submitted my application way back in November as well the interview. The hotel admissions office said that my application was complete and it is cuurently being reviewed by the admissions committee. Even though I got accepted into both Penn State and Purdue, I feel that Cornell has the best program for Hotel Management

how’d your interview go? I think mine went well, but in retrospect, i feel like i could have done so much better :-

It went really well. I met with an older alumni who has his own private law firm. He said that I was the first one that he ever interviewed in Texas. Since I work at a hotel, I was well prepared for the questions that he asked me. He also graduated from Cornell several years back so he said that is was much easier to get accepted and the application process wasn’t so arduous. The interview lasted a while, about 1 hour and a half. We met at a starbucks since he loves coffee.

Within those transfer statistics, however, guaranteed transfers (GT) are included. We can guess that about HALF of fall transfer students are either GT or internal transfers.

This last spring semester, the term I got rejected for, only 5 external transfer students enrolled in the Hotel School… my friend forwarded me the welcome back letter. It read something like, we welcome 22 students from other Cornell colleges, and 5 external transfer students.

Obviously, there is more room for external transfers for fall semester, but GT’s and IT’s are given priority.

Do you guys think re-applying will have a positive bearing?

The link I posted is for external transfers only to the hotel school. Out of 197 applicants, 65 were accepted.

http://www.dpb.cornell.edu/documents/1000156.pdf

so im not sure if its different for the spring semester or what. but that doesn’t include gt’s or internal transfers

Oh, cool. Well then it’s in our favor. But still, that leaves a 25% chance for men according to last year’s fall stats. I feel like my GPA is way too low to get in, but I am hoping they’ll recognize how passionate I am about the hospitality industry.

Again, do you think re-applying will weight positively or negatively, or neither?

Honestly, It really doesn’t matter what sex you are. Cornell will accept those who best reflect their hotel school.

Since you applied in the spring, they probably still will remember you. I think its a positive thing.

I would think it’s either neither or positive. It can’t hurt! They will see you as persistent in wanting to get it. If you applied again, your obviously not a quitter, and that’s a good thing :stuck_out_tongue:

I drove up to Ithaca for my interview (5 hour drive yeesh). I met up with an HR rep for the statler hotel and it lasted for about 45 minutes. Personally, I think my GPA is very low while i don’t have enough credentials to back it up, but I applied with hopes. Regardless, we will hear back soon enough. I think my essays were great so i’ll pull for that. Cal, how did you submit four essays? Don’t they only accept 2? (3 if you include the extra curricular)

I can’t imagine us being the only hotel school applicants out of the entire CC community.

Thanks guys, you give me hope. I applied to the hotel school for freshman ED and got deferred, and then rejected. No waitlist or guaranteed transfer or anything. So much for all the love and effort I put into you!! But I definitely want to transfer. I’ll study business wherever I end up going, and try to look for related work experience. I’ll never give up, freaking Cornell!!!

Well, I used the supplemental materials box to write an essay about Jordan LeBell, a very well-known food scientist who teaches at the Hotel School, and how eager I was to take his course. In addition, I submitted all new essays with my fall transfer application as directed by the admissions faculty. I noticed on the “application tips” that they encourage us to write an essay about something we are passionate about in the common app transfer essay, and then in the supplement essay, write about reasons for transfer. My personal essay was about web design as a modern art form, and how such skills would be excellent prep for certain classes.

I also sent an extracurricular activities update about founding a campus club, and one essay explaining a “C-” grade that I received during my fall quarter. I have not received any other C’s in college, and had pretty good reasons (mother was ill). Hopefully this is enough!!

I know that the application status site says transfers will be notified in mid-april, but everywhere else it says rolling to June 15. My whole app was finished by february, with the exception of my updated transcript, because I was waiting to finish my winter quarter grades (deans list with 3.575). Early application=early decision??
