hotel

it has a pool! : )

and our beds are doubles.

we are in the back building.

The Cypress Inn can be very lovely at sunset. We ate there when we arrived for our first Family Weekend. Our table was literally over the river, and it was very pretty watching the sunset and the water.

Leaving tomorrow, very excited. Staying at the Capstone. How far a walk is it to the Ferg? I would like to just park at hotel and walk to where we need to go. Meeting Jami at 11:30 so we will need to leave Memphis very early. Do I need to account for traffic?
I can’t find the tour info of course, think they must have emailed it to S. Gosh the amount of coordination involved in these visits is incredible.
Have not started packing S for summer at Ole Miss; but I don’t think he’ll need much more than tshirts and shorts. Purchased the sheets and blanket. Everything else I will have to pick up when I am there. Won’t be bringing a fridge ;)

Might be easier if you wait to check in later and go directly to your meeting. There is a parking deck right next to the Ferg ($3 to park all day).

Good idea, may do that if we are running late and/or its really hot.

We wanted to do Cypress Inn for Bama Bound, but they were closed. But we went to Full Moon. Really neat to see all the Bama memorabilia and the food was good. Mom is right on the desserts. So yummy! I liked Newks as well.

I have stayed at Capstone twice now. I like the rooms and the convenience. And got decent rates with Triple A or their best rate.

Have also stayed at Fairfield, which was nice, but first visit to campus and not a good entry view of the campus. Refer to m2ck’s campus tour thread for suggestion to enter campus. I use this every time now and really enjoy it.

You can park in Capstone’s hotel lot when you check in, but when I go around campus during the day, I park in the three dollar lot by the Ferg. Much closer to everything and I know where I left my car! Rather pay three bucks than risk a ticket and not remember where I am.

Food at the Ferg Food Court is good when doing appointments during the day, but if you’re not too tired, try the other places around town for dinner.

We got lost in Northport on the way out from Bama Bound, so now we have an idea where some of the food venues discussed on the site are, but there are good choices closer to campus if you’re tired after a long day of walking. Especially in this heat.

The chocolate cream pie at Full Moon is to die for. Ate that before my dinner because of the heat, and of course, had no room for dinner after that. So yummy!

M2K, we are coming from Memphis- do you know how we get to the “good” entrance from that direction. I mapquested it to Capstone Hotel, this has us taking a left on PWB Drive. Is that good. Then we will either drive or walk to Ferg. Want to start things off on a positive note as I’m sure we’ll be hot & tired after driving from Memphis and getting up at crack of dawn. :)

Hi,

Taking a left at Paul Bryant and going to The Capstone isn’t the “good entrance”. Staying on University Blvd and going to campus is.

I would do as Feeno says, go to the parking deck, go to meetings, and check in later. The Ferg is too far from Capstone to make it in a few minutes, and it’s probably hot.

So, continue on University Blvd, pass the stadium, turn right on Stadium Drive, turn left on Marrs Spring Rd, cross Campus Drive E to go into the Parking Deck (enter from West Side). Once in the parking deck, try to park on the East side. The Ferg and Student Services (where Campus Tour starts) is South of the parking deck.

Nott Hall (where you may be meeting Jami) is on the East side of the Quad…on 6th Ave

Hope you have a great visit!!!

If you have a GPS, search for restaurants, and pick Arby’s. I know this sounds crazy, but this is actually how I found the “good entrance”. There are two Arby’s, the one on McFarland, with the tree growing in it, and there is also an Arby’s on University, on the way to Capstone. Another great way I found using my GPS to get back to the Capstone is to search for the Coliseum. It’s right across from the Capstone and got me back to the hotel after I would get lost coming back from late night food runs. The journey down McFarland is great because you’ll see the malls right by campus, see Full Moon BBQ, it is not impressive from the outside, but you’ll love it once you’re inside, and you also pass by a nice park on McFarland as well.

Our visit was Capstone Day, a gloomy day, and we stayed at the Fairfield. We GPSed the Paul Bryant Center and our entrance was not as nice, through some downtrodden parts of town. While it is good to not sugarcoat what you’ll actually have once you get there, as you said, you’re going to be tired from the drive, and it will put you in a better mood entering from a more positive route. And I have to really downplay the downtrodden part of town as well. I went this way leaving campus to search for a gas station, and it didn’t look so bad that time around. I really do think our fatigue and the weather had a lot to do with our initial impression of the area surrounding the campus.

Oops, cross posted with Mom. Thanks, mom, for reposting these directions. Your Marrs Springs directions were very good. Caution on the parking garage, though. You have to take a less obvious entrance for visitors. You’ll find it, but it’s not the first entrance you’ll see. I hope the fountain will be running in the Ferg while you’re there. Very nice.

The entrance to the parking garage (for visitors) is on the West side of structure.

DD is going to the last orientation session squeezed between Alabama Action and when classes start. Flying in from Cali to Bham Aug 5 and spending 2 days to see Atlanta (maybe stop at the Ikea store?) before getting into Ttown to move her in Aug 7.

Used Priceline and got econ car from Birmingham airport for $14/day and Renaissance Downtown Atlanta for $51/night. Now to get the T hotel (hoping for Wyngate).

mom of four, if your D likes food from Trader Joe’s, that’s another stop you’ll have to make in Atlanta.

omama, thank you for the hotel recommendation. I just booked a couple nights for my family in September.
