have you done any other hotel-related work Bartagio? Also chances depend a lot on the essay. My articulation skills suck right now bcz i cant think clearly!! LOL

no...the internship was rather extensive though (100 hrs)...covered all aspects of the restaurant/foodservice...i was basically treated as a regular full-scale employee...i will be rehired when i turn 18 in february...bcuz its state law here that u hafta be 18 to handle alcohol...and at a hotel bar/dining room...its tough to do much if you cant touch alcohol or even clean up empty beer bottles

btw...im interested in gaming management...

if anyones familiar w/ vegas...

hey...hotelies can dream...cant they?

Ya... i know that 18 year old business. Over the summer, when I worked F&B, I had to work the EARLY (4:30AM) shift because it was the only one where alchohol was not commonly involved. But i have graduated F&B and am now working in a bigger, nicer, hotel in FOH operations. Make sure that you get a letter of reccomendation from you job though. Mine was:

"Dear sir/madame, The Holiday Inn Mt. Kisco had the pleasure to employ Andrew Haight this during and extending past his summer break. He did an outstanding job serving our guests in the Market Street Cafe. A number of guests had commented on his attentiveness, friendliness and desire to serve. His co-workers and supervisors were impressed by his strong work ethic and dependability. He quickly adapted to our procedures and standards. Andrew also expressed an eagerness to learn about our poperty's overall operation, mission and direction. We would welcome him to rejoin our operation so that he may be exposed to other areas and responsibilities within the hotel. I am confident that Andrew can become an asset to your student body and our industry." Sincerely, Richard Jabara of Meyer Jabara Hotels

Haha. he sent me a copy. i love that man. make sure that you get a letter from your boss!!!

yeah...got a rec from the outlet (restaurant) manager

I dont think it matters. I sent everything in with my application.

wait so whats the gender count!!! ahha please be no females!

i didnt get any recs from spiffy hotel managers :(

Ok guys, everyone has to realize that we are like "crazy" applicants who are just crazy. We do things that may be completely unneccsary. Seriously, soon we need to AIM chat room it up bcz we are all in the same boat here. Hotelery09 is me!

dont worry...my manager wasnt particularly spiffy...he and english didnt get along too well

Hello Everyone...this is my first post and I just have a question about the summer program at Cornell, because I know that at least one of you attended last year.

My daughter is planning to apply to LTMC for next summer, and has been very excited about getting the chance to experience Cornell during the summer. The only problem is her PSAT's...they're terrible. (47 cr, 61 math, 49 writing...YIKES!) She is an outstanding student, ranked 4/490+, well over 100 average, IB diploma candidate, also in the Academy of Finance program at her school, and will have great recs from her counselor and teachers. She took the PSAT last year and got the EXACT SAME bad grades in reading and writing, although her math has improved slightly. She has been seeing a tutor since August, but to no avail. She is crushed! She has been dreaming about attending the Hotel School since we went to an information session last spring, and when we visited this fall she knew that the Hotel School would be her first choice beyond a doubt. Now she feels that she will never be able to do well enough on the SAT to be accepted. She has also taken the SAT II in Chem (650) (Honors, not AP Chem), and probably a 680-700 Math I SAT II, which she'll know in a couple of weeks. She also got a 3 on the AP World History test last June. Her ec's are all hospitality related, and she is working on getting a job now that soccer is finished.

We're at a loss as to her poor PSAT results. Will her scores keep her from getting into the summer program if everything else on her application is great? As students, do you know anyone else who can do so well in school but can't, for some reason, do well on the SAT?

Thanks for any help! I probably should have posted this on another forum, but I know that some people here have been to the summer program.

Good luck to all of you with your ED decisions!
