Hotelies I Need Advice.. /Chances

I'm going to my senior year and my GPA dropped dramatically from a 3.4 to a 3.0. I had a passion towards the Hotel industry since 6th grade so i tried to make my high school schedule reflect towards that major. I didn't do so well on my 2 SAT Tests I took and I didn't take the SAT II Math IC yet, I plan to take it in November. I had plans on applying for ED so I can show that I want to really go there however heres my stats. Tell me if it's worth trying ED?

I wasn't able to do hotel work because I'm just concentrating on the SAT's currently. I was planning on applying to Purdue very early like in mid-September. however I'm not sure if I should waste a ED on Cornell. Do you think I should try ED? I really wanted to go here and numerous cousins of mine are Cornell alumnis. One of them went to the Hotel School also. Thanks.

Also alot of kids from my school goes to Cornell each year maybe around 5 kids each year.

Not to be a jerk, but you don't have much of a chance. The 3.0 and 1500 SAT score aside, you don't have any kind of EC relating to the service industry which the Hotel School values. I hear Michigan State's hotel school is good too.

Yeah, where else do they have good hotel programs?

well...i spoke to an admissions rep from the hotel school and i was told anything below a B was a red flag....basically it would take a REALLY BIG reason to convince the admission committee of 7 faculty members.

i wouldnt apply ED but i would apply! you never know, there are always exceptions to the rules.

best of luck to you!

US News has a listing for you. http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/majors/brief/major_52-09_brief.php.
Delaware's program is worth looking into. http://www.hrim.udel.edu/.
I've heard great things about Penn State as well, although I didn't see it on the US News list. http://www.hhdev.psu.edu/shm/

I don't understand? you're interested in hotel management/business obviously, but you only did DECA for one year.

****. i wanna ED hotel too and I have 3 c's on my transcript. hahaha. anywaysss...

funployee the thing is DECA is only available to Marketing students and I just did Marketing for one year. No one else can do DECA if your not in Marketing. My topic for DECA was the Hotel Management also.

Hm is this list alright?
-Purdue
-Michigan State
-Penn State
-Florida State
-UNLV

Like I been thinking it over and I decided that I should just go to Purdue(1st choice since I gave up on Cornell) and then do well and transfer. Is it hard to transfer into the Hotel School and what GPA do they usually look for?

i also asked the admission person at the hotel school and she said it is not hard to transfer in....

for spring transfers at least, 35 out off 55 who applied, were accepted.

and UNLV has a great program.

also, TO ALL HOTELIE APPLICANTS- THIS IS IMPORTANT

at the hotel school, they DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT, look at GPA. They completely ignore it.

they look at your grades in each class, because each GPA system is different. So don't worry about GPA. Just as long as you have hard classes with good grades, you are fine.

dande I guess I should just try doing RD and see what happens?

well if you REALLY REALLY love hotel, do ED. cornell has the best hotel school in the country. the worst thing that can happen is being flat out rejected. by applying ED, you are showing an even greater passion for the field

once more, i agree with laurstar.

jimgotkp, i totally would apply ED if that is where your heart is. if you reaaaaly want cornell- go for it

whats the avg. SAT II Match IC score for the hotel school? I'm guessing 600+?

no idea. call the school, they will tell you

http://www.hotelschool.cornell.edu/admissions/ugrad/stats.html

lists statistics for admitted students - SAT ranges etc and notes that 85% of accepted students have relevant work experience.

go to Cornell website
then Colleges&Schools section
then Hotel admin
then statistics
