Hotels for orientation?

Where would you recommend staying for UVA orientation? We can stay at either the Omni or Best Western Cavilier.

Best Western is probably all booked up. I looked three weeks before mine and it was all full. Omni is downtown, quite a bit of distance from campus if you're not driving. The Red Roof Inn's okay, but Marriot Courtyard seems much better.

Do not go to the Cavalier Inn. It is a disgusting hotel. My mother could not stand her room and could not sleep because of the unventilated air.

The Marriott Courtyard/Medical center is wonderfully located right next to the campus. Unfortunately, reservations are hard to come by, as it is a very popular spot. The Hampton Inn is just down the street and is also reasonably priced and very nice. The Best Western Cavalier Inn is "tired". Very nice staff and convenient location, but not as nice as the others. All three of these locations (along with Red Roof Inn) are easy walking distance to campus.
We often stay at the Marriott Courtyard/Charlotteville North. It is about 4 miles north on 29--across from Staples and Whole foods. The price is usually less than right in town, more room to park, very nice rooms, and just a 5 minute drive to the campus. Of course, a car is a necessity for that choice....

If you want to be able to walk, the best options are the Courtyard (the one on West Main, not up the highway), the Hampton Inn & Suites (on 10th), and The Dinsmore House, a cute B&B between the Courtyard and the Hampton Inn.

There's also a Residence Inn just behind Barracks Road Shopping Center, which is on the UVA bus route.

If driving isn't an issue, the hotels on Route 29 are an option.
